Named for the "Master of the Macabre," Edgar Allen Poe, as a tribute to his aptly-named short story ‘Hop Frog.’ We hope Edgar amuses you as much as he has us, but stay on his good side ... because much like in the story, this hoppy little frog bites back! Edgar IPA has been a fav staple at the Bullfrog since the beginning - a very hop-forward beer brimming with a notable citrus character, stonefruit aroma, and the expected bold bitterness of a modern American Double IPA.

Gold orange appearance with a foamy two finger white head, decent retention and lacing. Citrus, grapefruit, orange, hop, pine notes. Medium body, moderate stingy carbonation.

Hop forward flavors and aroma with a nice medium to full body. Great drinking brew that leaves a beautiful trail of lace. Cheers!

Taster at Bullfrog. Cloudy orange golden, spotty head with ring. Citrusy, resiny aroma, hop oil. Taste starts with a big hoppy bite, grabs you by the tonsils. Some notes of citrus appear, a long with pine. A real hop bomb.

16oz can into a pint glass.NO freshness dating.
Looks good in the glass. Slightly hazy amber yellow body. Strong white head persists in decent form throughout leaving scattered lacing.
Citrus and pine aromas, neither very strong.
On tasting, hoppy, probably more pine than citrus. Solid malt background. Abv felt. Very drinkable.
Mouth between medium and full, finish quite bitter with a lightly sweet final wash.
Overall, very nice old school ipa. Shame the abv is high, this kind of taste screams session to this palate.

The starchy white head, more than acceptable, may be an omen. This was a rather gentle pour, albeit at room temperature, of the contents of a pint can into a clear glass liter mug. The color is a bright semi-translucent amber, with plenty of carbonation. But, the aroma is of a sharp and somewhat piney hoppiness, so there's hope. The receding head leaves a sticky glass lacing, so there's more hope. There's less hops to the taste than to the nose and that's disappointing. This is very pleasantly smooth and light on the tongue. It might be, in terms of body and hop bitterness, one of the lightest DIPAs you'll drink. But it still has just enough hoppiness to be enjoyed and the 8% ABV is practically unnoticed. This is very good, not great, but understandably worthy of being considered a stalwart product by a good brewer. Try it again? Forever more. Then an update, 2022 version: No starchy head, but more hops to taste. That occurs in a medium that has enough malt to provide a great balance and a little more body. The original 4.34 rating must increase to these current numbers. This treasure is starting to show up in the Philadelphia area at less than $18 a four-pack. At that price, it's a must buy.

Decanted from a 16 oz (473 ml) can into a Sand City conical pint glass; no production data, but purchased at the Bullfrog Brewery on 08/24/21.
A: Pours an hazy, golden toward amber color with a one finger, off-white head, rim retention, and camp shaped swaths of lacing.
S: Aromas of caramel, grapefruit, pineapple, apricot, and pine predominate. Definitely a tannin note. Complex and enjoyable.
T: No more than semisweet. Complex with flavors a melange of the aromas. Malty definitely. Relatively light bitterness, given the style, which leaves it nicely balanced.
M: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Finishes fairly cleanly.
O: Stopped by the brewery, and was impressed. Saved this for home and remain so.

I tried this at the brewery. It poured a slightly hazy yellow with white head that left a spotty lace. The scent had hints of citrus peel. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with citrus peel presence. The mouthfeel is lighter in body with big carbonation. Overall its an good beer.
