On cask at the Jaspers release.

Pours a hazy golden amber orange color with light golden orange hues when held to anlight source and a two finger frothy white head withexcellent retention, only slowly fading into a pasting cap. Sporadic spots of lacing left behind.

Slightly funky earthy aroma with lots of fresh juicy strawberry notes. Slight lactic creamy funk and subtle malt backbone. Nice dry bretty effervesence.

Lighter end of medium body with nice funky crisp dry bretty efervescence. Lots of juicy fresh strawberry with subtle oak, lactic cream sourness, dry Brett and subftle malt. Nice balance of earthy funk and luscious uber fesh berries. Not as sour as I expected but it is perfectly balance and extremely drinkable.

A huge thanks to Frank for this one. Little known fact... this is actually the rarest of the BIG 3 Bullfrog sours (including Black Cherry Bomb, Blue Cheer and Beekeeper). Never released to the public, this was a gift for the pub club.

750ml corked and caged, unlabeled bottle with a hanging tag that reads: "Barrel Aged Strawberry Fields Wild Ale --- Aged in retired wine casks for a little over two years with 126 lbs of Strawberries and a slew of wild critters this beer will continue to develope for years. MERRY CHRISTMAS. Keep at room temperature until ready to enjoy. This offering is a labour of love to our loyal Pub Club members". Into a 3F wine glass. Reviewed from notes.

Pours cloudy tomato with light lace and no head. Not really much to look at. Though it does look like it still has strawberry puree in it.

Nose is vanilla, lactose, strawberries and cream and lightly tart. Very weird but pretty appetizing.

Opens sweet and tart strawberry and vanilla cream. A funky woodiness is pervasive throughout as is a cheesy, moss and peat presence. Old cobwebs with a fruity, tart, woody finish at the end. Not really very tart this one is more of a strawberries and cream beer. Excellent.

Light bodied with ample carbonation. Spritzy in the mouth and bubbly going down. Dry finish with a puckering, dry aftertaste. Super drinkable. Very light and refreshing.

This is certainly one of the most unique sours I've had to date. The tartness has kind of faded but the funk has picked up a notch at the same time. Great complexity and balance with a feel that is just right. I'm pretty impressed by this!

From one of the original bottles (different batch from the Jaspers release and I am told a different beer).

Pours a deep orange with hints of pink and a creamy head with lots of bubbles. The nose has a vegital note up front with lots of strawberries coming in after. There is a strawberry cream note with a slightly mineraly brett and some citric acid in the back. The taste has the light notes of green vegetable up front, hints of the interesting strawberry cream but lighter than the nose. More acidity with an almost seltzery finish. The strawberry cream lingers in the back of the palate with a medium body, very creamy texture to match the flavor, fost and subtle with a prickly carbonation in the finish. Very different, the berry cream was so unique, maybe lacto?

Thanks to Jason through me and Frank for this one. Unlabeled C&C 750ml bottle with a hanging tag that says "Strawberry Fields" on it. Poured into mini-snifter.

A - Pours a mirky darker yellow/orange, fizzy white head, no head lace, or retention.

S - Funk, tart, strawberry, sour, hay, slight citrus. The strawberry is more "fruity" then anything, and not exactly "strawberry". A very subtle and light sour/tart beer.

T - Strawberry sweetness, tart/sour, oak, fruity funk. I can pick out the strawberries better on the palate when compared with the nose. Probably one of the top strawberry beers I've had. Nothing is really taking over in this one, it's all very light and subtle.

M - Body is light, good carbonation, dry finish.

O - An enjoyable strawberry beer, fruity, nice touch of oak. A solid wild from the old-school BF that I enjoyed very much. I would def have it again, if offered. However, this one is ultra-rare, so I doubt I'll have the opportunity.

Thanks to Jason (and Frank) for this rarity. Unlabeled bottled with a neck tag - no idea how old this one is. Served in an Alvinne snifter.

A - Quick-dissolving white foam that settles to almost nothing - perhaps a partial skim on top. Hazed dark orange body.

S - Very lactic, and extremely evocative of strawberry yogurt. As it warms sharp oak and acetic notes grow in intensity, adding a light vinous character.

T - Taste is also quite lactic, with a mascarpone soft cheese and yogurt flavor to it. A strawberry jam flavor lingers in the periphery - either the fruit has faded with time or more likely it wasn't super-intense to begin with (most strawberry beers are quite understated). There's an unfortunate medicinal, slightly rotten fruit note in the finish.

M - Surprisingly medium-full body, with a chewy and lightly sticky texture. Some barrel and fruit tannins and dryness in the finish, but actually surprisingly clean. No discernible alcohol.

D - This beer is no threat to Scully's place on the throne of strawberry beers. I actually think I prefer Allagash Avancé to this as well. It's a pleasant and enjoyable American Wild Ale that is a bit mono-dimensional on the lactic side of things. Finish brings things down a notch as well.

Cask offering at the brewpub on 5/28/10. Three weeks too late for the Jaspers and a day short on the last special draft offering for American Craft Beer Week. Poop!

Strawberry fields appears a hazy golden/blonde orange color with less than a finger of fluffy white head. Sweet aroma of strawberries with a backing of Brett-tastic funk. This is an awesome smell and I can imagine what I am in for when I take a sip. This is going to be a good start to the long holiday weekend.

Taste has a light sweetness minorly reminesent of strawberry and then the full on debacle of Brett completely overtakes the tastebuds with a wet leathery flavor and a slight hint of must. Light bodied brew with an acceptably low/faint level of carbonation. Slightly drying in the finish with minor puckering power. Twinges of tartness/sourness force you in for another sip. Very drinkable and enjoyable. This was a better offering than I expected and could/should of had more instead of sampling the other offerings available on this day.

On cask at Bullfrog Brewery on 6/20/10.

A - Appeared as a clear strawberry blonde, orange-kissed liquid with a sparse, bubbly off-white that reduced to a swirly patch.

S - Opens with a fresh, ripe strawberry aroma with a slight sour funk and some floral notes. The nose is rounded out with a grainy malt presence and a slight waft of alcohol.

T - Nicely balanced sweet and sour flavor with strawberry and the forefront and a pleasant Brett character, the latter of which imparts a slight tartness. Finishes with a distinct toasted grainy character and hint of floral hops.

M - Light bodied with a watery texture. Finishes dry with a mild sourness on the palate, yet remains crisp and refreshing.

D - Wonderfully drinkable strawberry-infused wild ale with quite a bit of flavor and a tasty sour funk. I sampled some of this way back at the Liquid Sunshine Reserva release, and the aroma was WAY more strawberry-forward, so I suppose this says something about the age of the brew and freshness of the strawberries. While this still smelled excellent, it was nowhere near as aromatic as that first sample.

Had three times over two days surrounding Jaspers release.

Bullfrog Strawberry Fields

A: hazy pinkish with minimal head in both glasses (mine and friends).

S: nice strawberry nose with very subtle earthy notes below the surface. The strawberry is nice there, not as funky as I would have liked but it was there underneath with a low lying mustiness.

T: very mellow. Light strawberry flavor, light funk, & light sourness. Smooth throughout. Nothing taking center stage but not in a bad way either. All in all, a little muted.

M: light bodied, low carb

D: really smooth and sessionable. One of those beers that I'm glad I got to try. I think in life not every sour beer has to be a mouth puckering sour bomb. I think Bullrog is a fun little brewery doing what they want and that makes it good for me. I don't think these beers are brewed to be compared against cantillon etc. Thanks to everyone at Bullfrog for a couple great days.

Had this 5/7/10 on-cask at Bullfrog (Jaspers release day)

A-Body is a beautiful transparent light golden amber (with a hint of pink) hue. Served with a beautiful 1-2 finger soapy white head that, of course, has perfect retention and leaves plenty of lacing all the way down the glass.

S- Initially what comes through is a big dose of very sweet strawberry. Upon further inspection there is also a big tart strawberry presence and below this is a slightly acidic tartness.

T-Quite tart strawberry on top of sweet strawberry, on top of juicy strawberry...initially this is just strawberry, strawberry, strawberry. The finish adds a splash of vinegar and acidic tartness to the strawberry brigade...and, surprisingly...a sweet bready yeast lingers with the strawberry...strawberry shortcake?

M- Awesome. A wonderful, smooth, medium weight creamy body with minimal carbonation.

D- This brew offers a ton of strawberry as well as a mild sour/wild component as well. Good brew overall and excellent on cask.

Big thanks to sierrags for brining me back a mason jar portion of this cask only serving. Maybe not the best way to try it but I least I get to have some. Imbibed less than 24 hours after pouring.

A-Slightly hazed, golden copper with a thin, wispy, white head that held on around the sides of the glass and left spotty lace.

S-Bright, soured fresh strawberries upfront with a prevalent underlying aroma of musty, earthy, gauze pad/band-aid aroma.

T-If the flavour only bounced on the palate as the aroma was intoxicating. Initially very nice and what I thought but it is then quickly transformed by an overwhelming earthy mustiness, graham biscuit and antiseptic flavour. While I don't find it "bad" per se I was hoping for a bright, tart, zingy strawberry sourness.

M-Medium-light bodied quite smooth with little carbonation zip. Sourness lingers quite nicely on the palate.

D-This is the second time I have had this beer now, the first time being about 6 months ago at the annual pub club member holiday party, it has certainly changed since then. While the strawberry sourness is still there it has been moderated by the antiseptic gauze pad / graham biscuit notes. As stated, this is not necessarily a bad thing it is just something that I do not personally care for. I want more, punch you in the pucker, sour strawberry. I know strawberries are a delicate fruit whose flavour fades quickly so in reality this brew is certainly solid. It is a very difficult job to corral and master all of the wild flavours that reside in the barrels where these beers reside. Again, Terry proves his adeptness at being the "Master of Funk"!

A-Served on cask in a champane flute style glass. A nice one finger head that went down to about a half finger and then stayed through the whole glass. A nice golden color with a bit of a reddish hue.

S-Fresh strawberries, overwelmingly. A bit of a musty earthy funk but the straberry aroma is dominant in the nose. My wife could smell the strawberry from across the table.

T-This is one of my first expieriences with a sour beer. The tart strawberry flavor comes through nicely balanced by the kind of sour earthy basement funk and medicinal flavor.

M-Since this was served on cask it was nice and silky smooth. Carbonation was pleasant and spot on. Medium bodied.

D-I had several glasses of this while I was at Bullfrog. Who knows when it will come around again so I had to drink up. Great job on this one Terry.

This was on the hand pump at the Jaspers release. All of us at my table tried it, 3 liked it and I decidedly did not. I tried very hard to like it, but I just could not get past the overwhelming presence of band-aids...

The pour was hazy, a sort of deep golden color with an ever so slight pink hue to it, and more carbonated than I was expecting actually. Had a finger of head that kept pretty well.

Smell initially had a nice strawberry aroma and some earthy funk, but the band aid aroma I mentioned started to creep in and I just couldn't kick it the deeper I got into the glass.

Likewise with the taste, except that the band-aid flavor was even more intense. The strawberry flavor was tart and absent of any sweetness; it was very interesting, unlike any strawberry flavor I've ever had before. The trouble is, again, that the funk became overly phenolic to the point of tasting like band-aids. I'm getting repetitive here, but it was just too much and made the beer unenjoyable in my opinion. I gave the last 1/4 of my glass to a friend who enjoyed it more than I.

Mouthfeel was a soft and smooth medium body. Very dry in the finish, and quite bitter and earthy too.

Try as I did I just could not get into this beer. Dead horse, I know, but the band-aid flavor just killed it for me. I'd probably give it another shake if it comes back at some point because clearly the phenolic band-aid character was not intended, and perhaps next time around this will come out a bit cleaner (if that's possible with a funky, sour beer; without the off flavor at least, how about that).
