A - Pours a pitch black like engine oil, with a healthy, one fingered toffee colored creamy head. The lacing adheres to the sides of the glass like thick, viscous glue.

S - The aroma is dominated by a dark, expresso-like coffee quality. Deep, dark roasted malt, mild vanilla, oak, and bourbon lace the background but it's sitting very low in the mix letting the coffee profile steal the show.

T - Wonderfully rich and decadent with several layers of complexity strikes the palette. Flavor is balanced throughout the entire sip with an even distribution of flavors. It's unmistakingly a coffee dominated stout, first and foremost. After the wallop of expresso, the other nuances settle in with a nice blend. The vanilla, oak, and bourbon all blend nicely and evenly which creates a slightly roasted toffee/caramel presence with a mild, dry, oak tannin blended in. About midway through the snifter after the beer breathes a little, the coffee/expresso becomes less overpowering and everything blends far better. For a 10.5% beer, the booze aspect is expertly hidden.

M - Velvet on the tongue, heavy medium body, full, and decadent. Moderately sticky on the lips, and considering the coffee intensity of this beer, it finishes surprisingly clean (as clean as clean can be for a stout) with a small amount of mild burnt chocolate and bourbon that don't intentionally linger as one might expect. Creamy, and very nice!

O - This is an outstanding beer that only got better as it sat in the glass. Wonderfully complex and capable of holding its own against many of the more acclaimed stouts. I salivate at the thought of this being bottled and layed down in a cellar for a few years to see where it would go.

Growler shared by durwoodx. Thanks Darrell!

The beer appears dark brown, bordering on black, with a half inch of tan head that generates a healthy amount of lacing.

The aroma brings bourbon, roast, malt, chocolate, and coffee scents. So far, so good.

The flavor is complex, well balanced, and delicious. The beer is boozy, but not hot, and full of flavor. Coffee presence is enormous and quite a bit more than is customary, and I am totally fine with that.

The feel is relatively full bodied , with alcohol presence there, but not harsh in any way.

A terrific barrel aged stout. I definitely recommend it.

Wow, what a nice surprise! Also shared this one from Darrell with Huhzubendah.

A: Nice look, black with maroon highlights shining through, pretty. Pinky of tan head that retains nicely.

S: Wow, tons of espresso, chocolate, a little bourbon and vanilla/oak, and dark roasty malt. Maybe a bit too much on the coffee bean side for me, but from the aroma it reminds me of a not as balanced KBS, which of course is an awesome sign.

T: Tons of fine coffee and milk chocolate and great subtle bourbon barrel notes. Dark charred malts mix with great lactose encased grains. A little less coffee and this could be a 5.

M: Medium, lots of carbonation but smooth and creamy, nice.

O: Wow, an impressive beer for the coffee lover or not (me)! With time and more cracks at this, Bullfrog would have a comparable beer to KBS easily.
