Notes & Commercial Description:
Beer added by: Sammy on 01-07-2013

This beer is retired; no longer brewed.

Flemish style sour ale was initially brewed as a Belgian style quadruple ale. Oud 15 was aged for two years in second generation red wine barrels which previously held our Jaspers beer. Blended and steeped with Montmorency sour cherries and bottle conditioned with Belgian candi sugar, Oud 15 represents the culmination of 15 years of brewing, and is worthy of the commemoration.

pour is cloudy dark brown with a thin tan colored head. Nose is very big, tons cherry with a Bretty note behind. Fairly strong malt characteristic with toffee and light roast and a bit of vinegar. Taste is similar, a touch oxidized but very cherry forward up front, faint paper behind with dark malts abound. Chocolate and dark malts with a bit of leather and some tobacco and light vinegar. Faintly sour acidic characteristic in the finish on a heavy body and fairly well carbonated beer.

Short white head on a murky dark red body. No head after a minute, understand why with the high abv.

Mostly wine barrels with a slight funky sourness. Cherries to round it out.

A perfect marriage of sour, wine, and cherries. Never could have guessed 13%abv.

Medium mouthfeel, medium carbonation.

This one tastes exactly how I had hoped. Flanders in cherry filled win(e) barrels. Yum. Thanks PAbeerdude!

Thanks to jerz for sharing this one at GRG1313’s tasting.

Bottle # 489/506.

Pours a murky orange-brown with a foamy dark khaki head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is sour and tart with cherry, wood, and acidic aromas. Taste is much the same with cherry and woody flavors on the finish. There is a medium amount of acidity on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a very good beer with solid aromas and a great flavor.
