Growler poured into a thistle. The brew appears a hazed mahogany color with yellow around the edges when held to the light. Some ruby clarity in the middle and a light khaki head that fades leaving spotty lace on the glass.
The smell is that of cherry and minerals somewhat lactic and fruity with alcohol. A citrus quality emerges that is lemony. The cherry and alcohol imparts a bit of medicinal feel coupled with earth.
The flavor is almost meaty with an over-ripe to rotten cherry taste. Some minerals and earth couple with citrus character to impart a lemony lactic feel. Some dusty grain is present like the base brew.
This is a medium bodied brew with a modest amount of carbonation. It is a pleasant flanders sort of brew but without the typical acedic or vinegar notes. This brew is a bit muted when cold but really gets better as it warms. It is interesting to note that on tap I greatly preferred the kriek version of the Jong Bruin but in growler form I think i favor the Druiven.
