330 ml. capped bottle and poured into a shaker pint. Clear deep brown pour with crimson highlights and a thick and rocky inch of tan foam. Decent retention and light lace.

Aroma of light roast with a bit of chocolate and coffee. Touch of sweet fruit in the background. Aroma becomes a bit simpler with exposure and warming, quite opposite of what might be expected.

Taste is a bit less developed and a bit muted than the smell. Thin and somewhat ashen at times. This flavor segues to a rather light feel overall for the style. Opposite of the aroma, the taste improves slightly with exposure but remains a bit pedestrian.

Overall a fairly well executed yet 'light and simple' take on the stye.

This porter, dark brown in color without being too thin but letting some light in, grows a tan head up to about half a finger. It shows moderate retention with lacing that manages slightly better than average.
It's got the malt backbone, strong enough for a porter but not breaking any ground, with a safe, run-of-the-mill roast. There's a bit more to it, though, as toast gives way to earth and nut, a little leaf showing a touch of hops and chocolate underlying. There's a bit of heaviness in the char, but not until later.
The flavor brings the char out more, and while it shows a good complexity it has a little too much of an acrid note that can't be entirely eased by the chocolaty undertone.
The feel isn't overtaken by sweetness, instead actually leaning a little chalky. Surprisingly, the acridity doesn't make too much of a mark in it. It's a little too crisp, in my mind, for a porter, and use just slightly more to its medium body.

A - Creamy off white head that doesn't want to go away. Lots of lacing and high carbonation at first. Black.

S- Aroma gives a bit of coffee malt but it's not very powerful.

T - roasted malt gives off a hint of coffee and after taste of chocolate. Maybe a bit of vanilla in there with hop undertones towards the back.

M - creamy upfront with a bit of carbonation at the back. Medium light bodied.

O - it's an inoffensive porter. Refreshing even.

A - Dark brown pour with some soapy lacing. There is some carbonation.

S - Smells of dark malts. Too sugary in the smell. Almost smell like a shwartzbier.

T - Really lame. Too much sugar and nothing from the malts in the taste.

M -Feel slightly watery. Light feel but maybe not balanced.

O - This is Tecate trying to do craft. Stay away.

330 ml bottle. Served in a pint glass, the beer pours dark brown/black with about an inch and a half tan head. Head retention is OK, and there's a small amount of lacing. The brew smells like roasted and burnt/charred malt, bready malt and some chalkiness. The taste is better than the aroma, it's also similar to the aroma but there's the addition of some smoked malt, chocolate and a bit of coffee. Mouthfeel/body is light/medium, it's a bit coating with a moderate amount of carbonation. I think it's an OK brew, but I'm glad I just bought a single of this instead of a 4 or 6 pack (whatever this comes in). Just an average porter for the most part. $1.73 a single.

Poured into a Reuben's Brew snifter. Pours a very dark brown, appearing nearly opaque with ruby highlights at the edge; thin brown head that dissipates to a ring around the glass. Aroma of toasted malt, chocolate, light coffee. Flavor is very mild toasted malt with hints of char, light coffee and and chocolate, fades away quickly to a nearly flavorless finish with hints of toasted malt and hops. Light bodied. This one got my hopes up, the aroma was pretty good and the initial taste is muted, but has nice char notes to the roasted malt and the light chocolate and coffee that adds character to a porter. But the flavor really fades away quickly, pretty disappointing. Maybe a gateway porter for someone who does not want toasted malt aftertaste. Resembles the kind of faux porter Coors would make if they bought out a Mexican brewery.

11.2 FL. OZ. bottle
Served in a snifter

A - It is black, almost stout-like, in appearance. Two inches of tan head retreat almost immediately after the pour.

S - I smell some cocoa and dark chocolate, but the smell is off somehow. I can't place it, but there is just something off about the smell.

T - It tastes kind of lightstruck. Maybe that is the off smell. I get some dark chocolate in the finish. It got some off things going on. Not pleasant, but it could certainly be worse.

M - Medium

O - Even with the off taste and smell, it is still one of the best Mexican beers that I have had. It is way better than the typical skunked lager.

Pay the Ferryman Porter has a medium, beige, soapy head, a very dark brown (almost black) appearance, and lots of good lacing left behind. The aroma is of of sour, slightly burnt, brown bread crust, bread dough, malt, and maybe some chocolate syrup. Flavor is of all that with just the slightest bitterness in the background. Mouthfeel is light and watery, and Pay the Ferryman Porter finishes wet, mellow, and good. It's worth trying.
