This IPA is a slightly hazed amber. The off-white head is an unusual combination of fluffy and dense. It reaches a solid finger of height. Moderate retention leads to the eventuality of a strong island that leaves a ring of lace at the top of the glass and thick spotting below.
The aromas show a sort of C-hops profile, while malts add caramel sweetness and biscuit without overcoming the hops.
In the flavore it's somewhat stemmier and pithier with a chalky, slightly aspirin-like dryness along with honey-drizzled biscuit and caramel. Sweetness is set aside in the middle, where a hint of herbal leaf, dried grapefruit peel, and a ghost of mint come out.
The feel gives a solid mix of crisp and smooth with a drier middle to finish, while the end thins out very slightly.
Don't be fooled; even big breweries can make decent stuff whether craft beer hipsters like it or not. True, it rarely overwhelms, but this, at least, is solid.

Cloudy, chunk and orange/golden, with a modest white head.

Orange peel, malty sweetness without the caramel, alcohol and not much else.

Surprisingly sharp piny bitterness from the beginning right through the finish, some malty sweetness that almost balances, and some piny hop flavor.

Thin side of medium body, low to adequate carbonation, bitter finish.

Not bad. Not great either, but not bad. Considering it is from Mexico, it is surprisingly good.

DOA IPA has a thin, off-white head, a hazy, orange-gold, bubbly appearance, and some good lacing left behind, which is displayed in sheets more than rings. Aroma is subdued, but one does get a little bit of sweet bread. Taste is strongly piney bitter, but the bitterness is not harsh or unpleasant. Other flavors are grapefruit, white bread, and sugar. Mouthfeel is medium and slick, and DOA IPA finishes puckering, dry, tart, bitter, and surprisingly drinkable. Although nothing in this really differentiates it from other West Coast style IPAs it is good and worth checking out.

12oz bottle poured into a pint glass picked up for 8.99 for a six pack at Peabodys in Boone.

A: Transparent orange-amber witha white one finger head. Decent retention and lacing

S: Grassy and citrus scents dominate.

T: Takes a different direction from the nose with lots of biscuit flavors. Fair amount of bitterness as well.

M: More carbonation then I would have liked. A little bit watery. Pleasant lingering bitterness, hides the alcohol well.

O: Not a bad IPA I would say pick it up if you can find it, if not for the novelty factor.

D.O.A IPA Hop On or Die is a pretty terrible name for any beer unless it's been brewed exclusively for a Sons of Anarchy fanclub. Still, it looks pretty good. It has an orange colour that looks like the center of a tangerine and turns a blistered amber into the light. Its head is modest but very sturdy. This "day of the dead beer" seems very much alive to me...

In fact, the only thing 'dead on arrival' here appears to be the hoppiness; this aroma has the pleasant scent of fresh-baked bread but hardly a trace of lupulin. The nose, like the taste, is overwhelmingly biscuity and contains only a very mild amount of herbal, leafy pungency. It's fine, but underwhelming for an IPA.

In all honesty I rather like the ultra-biscuity, bready flavour of the malts but it seems better suited to tea time than happy hour. What I would like more of is those pithy and earthy notes to come out of the background; were they a little more pronounced and I might taste grapefruit or pine but as is it's just lightly honeyed cereal grain all the way.

Subdued hops means subdued bitterness. This beer isn't entirely sweet but it has very little to counterbalance the malts apart from a faint ganja-like must that arises now and again. This kind of constitution will suit commercial drinkers or craft initiates but leaves much to be desired for those accustomed to the green stuff.

Cervecera Mexicana S.A. De C.V. was dead to me the minute they released an Ed Hardy beer but after trying this timid excuse for an American-style IPA, now I really couldn't care less if this brewery lives or dies. The artwork on the outside of the bottle is great, the beer inside it not so much - don't be duped. Spend your dineros on a real Mexican craft brewery.

A: extremely pale amber with a light head
3.5/5

s: lots of caramel and resiny hop aroma. not too shabby
4/5

t: This one mostly bleeds out just pure bitterness. Its needs more later hop additions to balance out those harsh bitter tastes and give more depth
Fairly dry on the malt side of things
this is just ok
3/5

m: heavier carbonation that would be expected and fairly dry on the mouthfeel

O: this beer is really just ok Its semlls is rather nice, but the taste really doesn't follow through very well

You can easily do better, but its not too bad.
Hopefully I can try some better craft mexican beers in the future.

Day of the Dead series from Cerveceria Mexicana in Tecate. Clear light copper from a twist off 330 ml. bottle and poured into a pint glass. Rich cap of foam and good lace.

Light spicy hop aroma and notable malt backbone. Bit out of balance and muddled with malt notes. Flavor is similar and just an upped version of thier pale ale from my guess. Bitterness is a bit lacking on the finish and quoted at 50 IBU's on website.

Not unlike a 21st Ammendment or many an other Northwest or mass produced house label IPA's in my experience. Yet better executed in a sense though maxed out as for grain bill resources. Hops a bit stale and a bit much on the crystal malt don't do an IPA any justice for me.

Type: 11.2-oz. bottle
Glass: Karl Strauss pint glass
From: World Market in Las Mesa (San Diego), Calif.
Price: $1.99
Purchased: Aug. 1, 2013
Consumed: Aug. 6, 2013
Misc.: N/A

Poured a honey orange clear color with two fingers of khaki white head. Good amount of even layered lacing along the sides of the glass. Nice and foamy. Very good retention on the top.

Smelled wet soapy hops. Kept getting dish detergent. Also got floral hops, soap, light pine and light lime. Soap I tell you.

Was not pleased with the taste. Gave it a “what the hell is that?” face. Tasted boozy, some cologne, some bad liquor, malt heavy, citrus hops, orange and very bitter. Did gradually seem to get better, but still not a lot of flavor.

Medium body. Creamy texture. Lively carbonation. Bitter finish.

Just did not like this beer. Very unbalanced and very few highlights.
