one of the original gastropub locations in the city, and was in Northern Liberties before the area stared to regentrify. bar downstairs, another bar upstairs along with dining room and the outdoor covered porch. taplist is a good variety of regional beers, but mainly standard offerings, not really any special releases like some other top beer bars. food menu is gastropub type food - fancier pub food . having dinner out on the porch was nice

What I had: Stoudts Oktoberfest and Sly Fox O’Reilly’s Stout on tap, a few sips of Victory D’town Gose, Spicy Bahn Mi sandwich with chips for me, Chicken Salad "LT" sandwich with chips and a glass of sauvignon blanc for my fiancé.
What I liked: Casual, no frills ambience, clearly visible draft list and specials menu, excellent food at fair prices, I enjoyed my first two beers and my partner really liked her wine.
What I disliked: The Gose had off aromas (cheese, plastic) and the waitress tried to argue with me when I sent it back; draft list was decent but not nearly as good as I expected; the servers started talking about us after I returned my beer and effectively ruined our experience.
Would I go back? Probably not.

Standard Tap is a neat place in a cool part of Philly. It's a multi-level place where I spent most my time in the upstairs bar. The quality of the beer served and food was very good. The bar keep was kind and knowledgeable. They had 20 locals on tap, a cask, a firm in and a cellar beer. The food, while foo foo....was very good

For the love of God, PLEASE get menus that are not random chalkboards in dimly lit rooms.

Okay now that I got my one and only complaint out of the way.. Standard Tap has a wide selection of what seems to focus only on local beers, or mostly local beers, which is awesome, sometimes. The food is always changing and different, and often has many items that I would not choose, but you can never go wrong with their empanadas, burgers, or poutine. If you are looking for a first date, relaxed, cozy environment come here and go on the upstairs outdoor deck (you can thank me later). The service has always been quality, and like I said, the one downfall is you cannot get a physical menu to hold. At night this is one of the most dimly lit restaurants I have ever been in and their menus are only able to be seen on random chalkboards... annoying.

Walked over from Yards Brewing to Standard Tap around 6pm on a Saturday. Got seated in a small room adjacent to the bar area. Around 20 beers on-tap, all local and carefully curated. Upon seeing one of my all-time favorites listed on the board, Victory Braumeister Pils, I knew what I was drinking the rest of the evening. They also some Sly Fox, Troegs, Neshaminy Creek, Yards, Free Will, and Tired Hands available, to name a few, which was cool to see. Food was excellent. I had a soft shell crab sandwich and my friend had a pulled park sandwich. Great stuff. Waiter was extremely nice and we weren't rushed at all. Finished things off with a quick cocktail and we hit the road to see a show at Festival Pier. I'd go back in a heartbeat.

This place is pretty great - My brother is the one who brought me here the first time. The food is great and the selection is always pretty great too. I really like the vibe and It is one of the first beer-centric places I visited in Philly so it holds a sentimental type of memory, the service is always on point -definitely recommended.

If you are looking for a cool local jaunt that serves primarily PA beers, this is it. I have had quite a few special Bullfrog beers here. Troegs, Victory, Neshaminy Creek, Weyerbacher are always on tap here. Bartenders are cool. Food is really good. Worth the stop for local craft.

I feel like Standard Tap is one of the few “top beer bars” in Philly I had not yet visited. So there I rode, a couple of fast miles from my jawn in South Philly.

The Standard is a cool, spacious bar, with lots of room to roam. Quiet on a Wednesday evening. The bartender, as usual in Philly, was aloof and distant, with that I-saw-you-but-I’m-going-to-ignore-you-for-a-while look. Good music, though, Radiohead style.

The food menu is pretty large but pricey, with nothing under ten bucks except for fries. The taps are largely local/regional (PA): Troegs Scratch 145, SlyFox, Bullfrog, Weyerbacher, Yards, Dogfish, Flying Fish… all low-ABV as well. Not bad, but not exciting (except for the amazing Troegs Scratch)

Dollar off Happy Hour is all I got as a special. Nice stop, but I wouldn’t rush to try it again. There are a lot of beer bars where the tap list and service are better.

Stopped in here for the first time last week while we were in the area. I have always heard how great this place is, time to see if that is accurate.

Nice sized space with a good amount of seating area. Atmosphere is all over the place. From older people to beer geeks to hardcore hipsters. The smallish bar on the left has the drafts and menu listed above it. Service was pretty good as well. Our server seemed to know her stuff and she came to check on us a few times during our short visit. Selection was great. All but two of the drafts from PA. I got a Dock Street Berliner and it was decent. Only had time to get one beer but I saw a few others I would have liked to try. On a recent visit I stayed long enough to get some food, went with the Standard Burger which was really good and the fries were just as good.

Overall a place that I am sure I will stop at many times in the future.

Visited on day one of a 4 day northeastern pub crawl in June 2011. Really like the Colonial look of this place - not sure what it was like in previous live's but it's easy to imagine the founding father's dropping in for a pint. The focus of our trip was local beers and this was the best we found (out of NYC, Boston, Philly, & Baltimore) in meeting our goals.
Place was pretty packed on a Saturday night and we got seated in a smallish room upstairs shared with a dozen guys getting warmed up for a bachelor party. They were somewhat annoying (mostly BMC types) but finally left after a round of bro-hugs the likes of which I've never witnessed before (sure, City of Brotherly Love..., but every guy's gotta hug every other guy? - total of 132 hugs...). After that the service and atmosphere improved markedly. Philly is a great beer city and Standard Tap really showcases the great local offerings. Food was also quite good.

It's been way to long since I've been to the Standard. This was a 3rd stop on a recent mini bar crawl.

Right across the street from The Foodery, Standard tap is the real deal when it comes to local beer. I've been to many local bars and this standard runs the standard on PA beer. 1st floor is the standard wooden bar with a nice chalkboard full of good eats and drinks, wine, liquor and 15 or so standard taps. I had some Yards IPA on Cask, it was quite good. Two handpumps by the way and the bartender knows how to pull a pint.

I like the look here, it reminds me of many city bars with the ceiling structure and the walls give off a General Lafayette kinda vibe, homey, rustic, paintings on the wall, you know all those old standards. Their is also an upstairs bar with the same selection and quite a bit more seating, similar to the downstairs. I believe there is also a small deck.

I knew I liked this place when I realized the workers/bartenders were actually seemingly having a good time doing their job. I've been to many a bar in the area with some dull service staff "here's your beer" gloomy outlook on life type of people. Standards people were upbeat without being wild.

This place has a great selection of eats. The fries are killer, well cooked and really fill you up after a small crawl. Large portions. My boy had an oyster po boy, he loved it.

I really like this place and will be coming back, hopefully during beer week.

Big fan of this place. Liked it better than Monk's Cafe really, although the selection is not nearly as great. Really killer vibe with a good crowd. Lots of good "talent" (i.e. attractive females), not that I care as I am getting married. There's also loads of space both downstairs and upstairs, and it's got a fun atmosphere. The tap list is long - maybe 20 beers or so - and very local-heavy. I think I counted one or two beers on the whole list that weren't from PA. However, you're likely to see some interesting local obscurities that you haven't yet ticked, and some of them will be tasty. I had a Flying Fish Exit 9 (good tick) and a Manayunk California Dreamin IPA (so-so tick). The food is pretty solid if you get a chance to try it. Service is pretty good, even when it's busy. I'll be back whenever I'm in town again.

I went to the Standard Tap on a recent trip to Philadelphia. The atmosphere was very low-key with dim lighting, cool music, and friendly staff. The bartender was very nice and helpful discussing some good local spots for us to try out. I had two beers at the Standard Tap which were both decent beers-Troeg's Mad Elf (which I had had the previous day at the Troegs brewery in Harrisburg) and a Sly Fox Stout. The beer selection was decent, but not spectacular like some other spots I went to in Philly. I would recommend this place as a cool stop to sit back, relax, and enjoy a beer or two.

Stopped in this bar after making a big beer haul across the street at The Foodery. Met a friend of mine from Phoenixville here because he knew of the spot. Really cool vibe here super friendly bartender who chatted with us about Philly bars. the bartender loved Memphis Taproom and some German bar that did really good food. Any bar that has Mos def playing is quality in my book, heard the whole album "Black on Both Sides." The draft selection was nothing too impressive and seemed to highlight a lot of local breweries, but they had good beers and you just enjoyed drinking them there. They have an upstairs and downstairs bar but we only saw the downstairs one. I would not make this a destination but if your nearby this a great bar.
Cheers
