2003 vintage.. have had quite a few of these over the past few months... and they have been ridiculously good, with luck I ran across 2 cases of the 2003 just about 6 months ago. (this vintage is 11.4%)

eyes...
deep dark brown but not opaque (with ruby highlights), thin head retains well, a decent amount of carbonation rises from the depths, lacing is decent but more or less this leaves "legs" like good wine due to the high alcohol content. no doubt, this is a great looking beer for the style.

nose...
here is where I usually just get lost in the olefactory-gasm that is this fine brew, raisins dunked in jack daniels, barley, this stings the nose with it's booziness but it has mellowed to be in balance here, the smell finshes out with cocoa powder (it smells that dry!), the dark fruit tones are just out right awesome and the chocolate tint balances this out! great !

taste etc...
the carbonation is just active enough, a slight prickly sensation before the maple syrups hits your mouth, huge barley like flavor with chocolate undertones, the beer has developed so well that the booze is only noticed in the back of the throat and the warming sensation in your stomach, at times this is nearly as thick as maple syrup and does also have a paralell in the flavor component. the "sweetness" factor here is really reminiscent of good dark vermont maple syrup, there is some mild bitterness in this as well.. man alive the complexity that has developed here is mind boggling. and bottle to bottle the 2003 has been pretty consistent.

verdict?
out-friggin-standing! this could pair well with any super strong cheese. one bottle is nice to split amongst a couple of friends in a snifter. it is easy drinking for the heavy ABV.. man has this aged well! if you see it.. buy every bottle you find.

This is the 2012 bomber edition. I have never had this fresh.

Serving type: 22 ounce bomber poured into a Belgian tulip glass.

Appearance: Looks great in the glass, dark reddish brown, cloudy, off white head, lots of tiny bubbles, not much lacing,

Smell: Two years old and not much on the aroma. There is some kind of faint malt aroma, not sure what it is, but definitely no alcohol on the nose. Not much for aroma, very subtle I can't identify the smell. It's like a bread, malt, caramel aroma, definitely not significant.

Taste: Bitterness upfront, some malt bread flavor in the middle, a nice grape wine like flavor with some slight sourness. As the beer warms, the bitterness lessens, the grape like flavor becomes more prevalent, very nice.

Mouthfeel: a lot of tiny bubbles, dry, metallic like feel, not thick.

Very nice beer, definitely better a little warm than right out of the fridge. Very good, I am going to try 2014 to get a comparison. Definitely worth a try.

2013 vintage poured into snifter
A- Brownish-ruby hue with very small tan head
S- bready malts, raisins, sweetness, some oaky wood
T- follows nose pretty much. Slight malty booziness.
M- wonderful, velvety creamy mouthfeel. Not much on the hops, very faint, if any. Medium carb.
O- overall, very nice Old Ale. Almost a barrel-aged booziness that gives a good alcohol presence, but no burn. Very nice offering.

2011 Old Stock Ale in my snifter... absolute perfect melding of aroma, taste, experience... such a different vibe. Very deep amber hue accented by a strong, sweet molasses scent. Tastes like a liquid dream... smoothest mouthfeel I have experienced, save perhaps FIS... overall a winner... back to the bottle shop for a few more to age.
