Old Stock Ale - 2013
12 oz bottle
A: Aggressive pour into a snifter as I want to get all that this beer has to offer. About 1 finger of crisp white effervescent head that fizzled to nothing in seconds with a noise like a soft drink only cleaner sounding, crisp and flat clearing fast. Tiny amount of lacing that goes right back into the beer after swirling the glass. Impressive. Reflective light reveals chocolate brown. Light through the beer reveals a bright red color. Amazing. I have never seen such a difference between reflective light and light passing through a beer.
S: Very Rich malt profile. Caramel, toffee. Other things I can not identify. Balancing hops in the background. Very complex. I know there are hops in here but they are just balancing the malt base at this point. There is a hint of tartness that seems like crisp green apples. Maybe red apples; a little sweeter and a bit less tart. Very Nice. A slight background note of bread.
T: The taste is even better than the smell. Its all the same notes. As I let it warm to room temperature, the abv becomes apparent but not overwhelming.
M: Nice. I get a very blended mouthfeel. It fills my mouth with a beer feel but quickly smooths out into a creaminess that ends with a bitterness and alcohol warmth and a crispness that makes me want another mouthful.
O: This is a very nice beer. A great one to try if you are new to Old Ales as I am. This beer seems true to styling characteristics. This beer ages very well even 10 years or more from all of my information. I want another one this year and at least once a year from previous years. :)
