This is a huge beer with more of the characteristics of a Barley wine or a quad than any Old Ales I have had before.
Allowed to warm to (basically room temp) and served in my snifter glass.
Appearance: This beer pours a dark copper brown color with ruby hues small head fades fast in this big 13.25% ABV beer.
Smell: Smells like port with a boozy berry aroma that is rooted in a sweet caramel malt and sugary base. Raisins and raspberries covered in brown sugar and rum. This is one of the biggest aromas I've found on a beer to date.
Taste: This beer is so magnificently smooth and rich with flavors of rum and raisins. The flavor complex yet so beautifully blended that it is simple to just accept it and drink up. Toasted caramel malts, hints of chocolate, berries, and a bit of licorice are only a few of the flavors buried in the blend. Mostly it reminds me of a rum cake covered in burnt caramel.
Mouthfeel: I can not even describe who malty smooth and creamy this beer is. I am certain it is a beer of the gods.
Drinkability: This is certainly a nightcap beer. Session this beer and you may die. The alcohol has a tremendous warming characteristic so it would be nicer on a cold day or after the sun goes down if you try it in the summer. It is the perfect way to end an evening. This drinks so much like a spirit, I am planning to try some sweet English tobacco in my pipe next time I get this beer. It is a sipping beer with out a doubt.
Hope this is helpful.
