Old Stock Ale 2014
Appearance - Pours a relatively clear deep reddish amber with a light khaki finger width head. Good retention, resulting in a broken layer of surface suds and a decent ring around the edge of the glass.
Smell - Caramel, sweet raisin and coconut notes hit the nose with a nice harmonic balance.
Taste - Follows the nose. Deep caramel character is the base, with notes of sweet raisin and especially coconut, which strengthens as the brew warms. Maybe a touch of red apple in there. A light, warming quality comes through in the finish.
Mouthfeel - Full-bodied with light carbonation. Velvety, almost cream-like quality. Semi-dry finish. Stupid smooth for nearly 12%.
Overall - Man oh man, where has this been all my life? I'm in love. Drinks like a BA barleywine, without all the strong bourbon punch. This is one I'll be revisiting in the near future, granted I can find it.
