Vintage 2012 cellared for at least a year on location at Little's Wine and Liquor. Had this beer before, but didn't get a chance to rate it.
Poured into a snifter and paired with cheese and crackers.
A&S: Very powerful aroma with components including: sweet raisins, caramel, pretty big alcohol tones (even with the year of aging), red grapeyness (port wine-like). Deep opaque ruby red colored beer. Off white fizzy head that fades almost instantly and leaves no sign of lacing on the glassware.
T&M: The taste is super mellow with the aging. Mostly consisting of red wine grapes and Tannins are pretty present in this beer. Fairly bitter finish towards the end of the taste. Warms the belly a bit as it goes down. Very clean and dry in the finish. Medium to low bodied with high amounts of carbonation.
Overall: Having this beer a day apart from the winter old ale from Alaskan is like night and day. I was thinking my rating on the Alaskan was maybe too harsh, but I'm not second guessing anymore, this is what an old ale should be. One of my favorite and in my top 5 for the style for sure.
