Note: I'm reviewing this as a classic Dubbel. Your experience may vary.
A - Dark brown, slightly muddy, and brighter than I expected for a Dubbel (or BSDA). Poured a meager 1 finger off-color head, with good retention. No notable lacing.
S - Lighter than expected, with strong notes of liquorice and prunes, and hints of nuts. Belgian candi sugar and dark fruit.
T - Surprisingly good! Very sweet and mellow. Maybe not the most complex Dubbel/BSDA, but quite tasty. Cherries and prunes or dates, a very slight liquorice note (gaining strength as it warms). Slightly nutty.
M - Also quite good. A very smooth drinking beer. Medium-full feel, with no sting and no burn at all. Easy to chew, swish, swallow. Leaves a thick amount of remainder in your throat (calling it "oily" would be an understatement) that is quite pleasant. Is this a perfect mouthfeel? For me, I think so.
O - I was expecting something less than stellar based on the reviews, but I have to say, I came away very impressed. It may not look or smell like it's about to rock your world, but give it a taste with an open mind. This was better, for me, than the Allagash Dubbel I had two days ago, and I was expecting the exact opposite result.
