12 oz stubby purchased here in Utah. This one is poured into my beer goblet.
Appearance: A slightly hazy (chill haze?) dark mahogany brown with only a small amount of off white head. It settle rather quickly and left no lacing to speak of.
Smell: Caramelized sugars and Belgian yeast phenols. There is some dark dried fruit present as well.
Taste: The taste is a nice mix of maltiness and yeast spice. The dark malts are caramelized well. The finish is quite sweet. The yeast spice reminds of nutmeg and maybe allspice. The alcohol is well hidden for 9.4 ABV. This did not seem as well rounded as I remembered from prior bottles. The taste moved toward that of a brown ale as the beer warmed.
Mouthfeel: The flavors coat the mouth really well. The body is approaching thick and the carbonation is medium.
Overall: I really want to like this beer more because I remember it quite fondly. There is nothing wrong with this beer, but it does not live up to its potential.
