Cloudy, deep amber liquid emerges without really any trace of head. Uh, oh, what's wrong?
Well, at least the aroma is right on. Rum raisin in a big way with a buttery back waft and plenty of bready aroma to boot.
Lovely malt character leads the way with flavors of dates, raisins, pumpernickel and a deft blend of cardamom and apple skins on the finish (the yeast at work, I think). Better than I remember.
Not thick but a decent degree of chewiness nevertheless. Carbonation is held in check nicely and the finish is almost creamy. Highly drinkable for a dubbel and one I'll have to keep in mind alongside the Chimay Red and Ommegang Abbey for future fixes.
