Bought a 12 FL. OZ. bottle of this from Lukas Liquor in Ellisville, MO for $3.99. Poured from the Tan/Red labeled bottle w/ Brother Theo. about to enjoy some of this belgian style brew and piano keys around his head into a 16oz Tulip Glass. Does not have a freshness date on the bottle. Hate this about some breweries! Not very hard to add this on the label/bottle...

Aroma- Caramel and malt come up big time in the beginning and then some hops are available to whiff at. Nothing like it should be... Wheres complexity? Richness? Spiciness? Depth? Missed the mark here...

Appearance- Pours a 1.5 finger head that has average retention. Has a deep amber/red glowing body that was cool! Nice clarity. Doesn't leave any lacing behind.

Flavor- Sweet, malty, and has a light hop bitterness. Come on, give us something we can get interested in! Needs more complexity here too...

Mouthfeel- Light-Medium Bodied, Medium-High Carbonation, Smooth, and leaves a decent amount of caramelized/sweet malt flavor behind.

Overall Impression- Would Brother Thelonious be impressed by this one? I don't think so. Needs some work. More complexity, body, and more character would make a good starting point. I'm glad I got this in the 12oz form and not the 750mL bottle! Wouldn't recommend for this style... Very average all around.

Pours a clear walnut color with a big fluffy tan head that falls to a ring with some sparse lace.

Aroma is brown sugars, candy sugars, cherries and plums. Some light spice noted also.

Taste is malty candy sugars with fruit notes sweet plums and cherry notes with light spice finish cloves hints of nutmeg. Overall pretty simple not overly complex.

Mouthfeel is medium with lightly peppy carbonation.

Overall smells pretty good taste is ok but not good enough to make me want more.

Brother Thelonious is a cloudy, brown ale with a thin, dense, sand colored head that leaves nice lacing on the glass. It has a big, fruity aroma with notes of prunes, figs, raisins, cherries, candy, brown sugar and cookies. It's pretty full bodied but a little sharp to the tongue. It leaves the mouth a little numb and gritty. It kind of tastes like fruit cake, but not so sweet. Plum and molasses are detected. There a light bitterness at the finish. There's quite a bit of flavor here and the fruitiness lingers well after the swallow. It's pretty tasty stuff.
