Brewed in the style of the American Craft Beer renaissance, Blue Star is unfiltered, the yeast adding a complex note to the flavor profile.

A clear golden yellow in the glass with a half finger of white on top that melts rather quickly.
Aromas are clean fresh citrus, sweet pale malts, and bready wheat spiciness.
Taste is an extension of the aroma. Nicely subtle pale malt, bready or biscuity wheat, a touch of pepper spiciness, a brief hint of citrus hops.
Drying and cleansing in the mouth.
Good stuff.

A: Pours a slightly hazy pale to medium golden yellow in color with moderate amounts of active visible carbonation rising from the bottom of the glass and moderate amber + honey + burnt orange + bright yellow colored highlights. The beer has a two finger tall sudsy foamy light beige head that reduces to a medium sized patch of medium thick film covering approximately 25% of the surface of the beer surrounded by a large patch of slightly mottled thin film covering the remainder of the surface of the beer and a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Light amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Slightly stronger than moderate aromas of wheat malts with a light amount of grainy sweetness. Light aromas of citrus/lemon + citrus/lemon zest + herbal hops.

T: Upfront there are slightly stronger than moderate flavors of wheat malts with a light amount of grainy sweetness. That is followed by light to moderate flavors of citrus/lemon + citrus/lemon zest + herbal hops which impart a light amount of bitterness which fades away leaving a slightly lingering wheat malt + herbal hop flavor.

M: Just shy of medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Initially slightly crisp with a slight creaminess towards the finish.

O: Easy to drink with well hidden alcohol and I enjoy the initial slight crispness in the mouthfeel. The citrus + citrus zest + herbal hop flavors and aromas work well together. Decent example of the style but nothing about this beer is calling me back to grab another.

Well developed head, hazy straw color. Smell is hay, lemon sweetness, and a hint of spice. Taste is orange peel, lemon, honey, straw, light hops, light coriander. Overall pretty sweet considering it’s not a fruit focused beer. Feel is creamy and finish is wet.
It’s refreshing and easy to drink fast, but really it’s a little sweet for me. The more that I think about it, the more it reminds me of a sweet lemon tea in beer form... I don’t know. It’s good as I’m drinking it, but I’m not sure I’d seek it out again.

355 ml bottle, in Sacramento. Pale straw colour. American wheat ales (that are not intended to be hefeweizens or witbiers) must be one of the most boring beer styles ever. Nothing especially "wrong" with the aroma and flavour of this one, just grainy and boring.

Poured from a bottle into a tall tap glass.

Pours a faintly hazed yellow-gold with plenty of bubbles. Decent head that dies fast. But good lacing.

Pale malt and sour (lemon) wheat on the nose. Faint but on point.

The brew is slightly malt-sweet on the tip of the tongue, but in a nice restrained way. Pale grainy barley and lemony wheat in midstream opens up into some herbal and spice notes (white pepper and coriander), and then is joined by some grassy/earthy hop as the brew trends to the end.
.
Medium light bodied, and well carbonated, it's very crisp and drinkable.

The American Wheat is admittedly not the most mind-blowing style out there. But rating to style, overall this brew is above-average, and somewhat different from the usual citrusy standby. Well-restrained sweetness balanced by a variety of other notes. This would be an excellent sessionable summer beer.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, bottled on 11/6/2017. Pours fairly hazy/cloudy medium golden yellow color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and fluffy off white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice spotty foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of lemon, orange, citrus zest, peach, pear, red apple, wheat, cracker, bread dough, lightly toasted biscuit, light pepper, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness. A bit too fruity/yeasty aromas, but not overwhelming. Nice aromas with good complexity and solid balance of citrus/earthy hops, fruity yeast, and pale/wheat malt notes; with good strength. Taste of lemon, orange, citrus zest, peach, pear, red apple, wheat, cracker, bread dough, lightly toasted biscuit, light pepper, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness. Mild herbal, floral, grassy, spicy bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of lemon, orange, citrus zest, peach, pear, red apple, wheat, cracker, bread dough, lightly toasted biscuit, light pepper, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/earthy hops, fruity yeast, and pale/wheat malt flavors; with a nice malt/bitterness balance, and no astringent flavors after the finish. Moderately crisp/clean finishing. Lightly increasing dryness from lingering bitterness. Medium carbonation and light-medium body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/bready/grainy, and lightly sticky mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 4.5%. Overall this is a delicious American pale wheat ale. All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/earthy hops, fruity yeast, and pale/wheat malt flavors; very smooth, crisp, clean, and refreshing to drink with the mildly bitter/drying finish. Very flavorful and not watery for the ABV. Perfectly balanced noble hops, fruity American wheat yeast, and pale/wheat malts. A very enjoyable offering, and impressive style example.

Look: Pale yellow with some haze. Large, foamy head that quickly dissipates.

Smell: Citrus and wheat malt.

Taste: Wheaty malt, a bit of hop bitterness, orange zest.

Mouthfeel: Slightly thicker than average. Highly carbonated.

Overall: A solid wheat beer, albeit not outstanding.
