-Overall looks good, great foamy head
-light hop smell bright, and a light sweetness
-a good red ale but leans a little bland compared to most i have drank
-tastes watery and a little over carbonated but apart from that a smooth bubbly feel

Whoah really aromatic. Pungent spicy and hoppy. Tastes great! Better than Red Seal.

5.4% ABV and 42 IBU's. Sampled from a six pack purchased in Eureka, California.

A: Two-and-then-some finger head from a strong pour. Eventually reduces to a patchy tan head with a ring. Lacing is strong. Significant amount of fine particles that look to be almost in suspension. The particles will accumulate on the bottom of the glass if given enough time. Attractive red hued copper color.

S: Floral and spicy hops, some pine and berries, caramel, toasted malts, and vanilla. Balanced, complex, and inviting.

T: Sweet maltiness up front with caramel and red berries. Hop spiciness transitions to hop bitterness with mild pine flavor. There is too much hop bitterness and it pulls the focus away from the outstanding flavors this beer has. Earthiness in the finish. It's worth noting that Red Seal leaves the taste of red raspberries along with that raspberry tartness on your palate.

M: I don't often think there is too much carbonation, but this is approaching my limit. A strong pour still leaves tongue-stinging carbonation. Slick on the palate in a way that begs you to drink more. Creamy. There is tea-like drying after swallowing.

O: This is one of those times I'm glad I picked out a beer other than the one I was intending to buy. Too hoppy to call this refreshing, but certainly sessionable. This beer with half the IBU's would be off the charts. Why force the bitterness in there North Coast? Flavors are amazing in this one.

There is some zesty orange and bready malt in the aroma. Pours a very clear, deep amber body with a rocky, off-white head. Nicely hopped but not too bitter; the malt rounds out the hop flavors and bitterness without stepping into the spotlight. The hops are spicy and fairly citrus-like; they provide a good bite alongside the judicious carbonation. The carbonation is lightly prickly and the body is moderately full; there is just a little acidity from the hops.

This hits the spot like nobody's business. The malt provides a good softening background for the reasonably intense hops, which are pleasantly bitter and citrusy.
