Reviewed @ Rattle n Hum on 9/1/09,
Appearance: Hazy yelllow and clear with little head.
Smell: Beglian Yeast and sweet greet fruit.
Taste: Opens mellow with Belgian yeast which continues to the finish. Then a sudden somewhat intense malt and green fruit come in from the middle to the finish leaving a malt and yeasty aftertaste.
Mouthfeel: Light to medium bodied, crisp and dry.
Drinkability: I would definitely have this again without a double even if it is one of my favorite styles.

Poured bottle into New Belgium globe
A-The appearance has a hazy orange slightly golden looking colored body with less than a half fingered white foamy head that quickly disapates. Decent lacing.
S-The smell has Belgian yeastiness up front with a nice allocation of spices to compliment the aroma.
T-The taste is spicy yet somewhat sweet and a nice complimentary sort of under-shadowed sort of "sweet" tones to give a very nice sort of spicy/sweet/dry aftertaste with a quick dry finish.
M-The mouthfeel has a light to medium body and the carbonation is good for a Belgian Strong Ale.
O-Overall one of my favorite American Belgium Strong Ales. A must try!

I tried this beer as I tend to like most of the Belgian ales. This one has a nice golden hazy appearance and traditional ale smell. However, I expected the taste to be similar to Leffe or beers of that style. Instead, it is closer to an ale/lager mix that almost has a "stale" flavor that is complex & hard to describe. The higher alcohol content is masked well. This beer grew on me but not something likely to be on my list of buy again beers. Somewhat surprised at the exceptional ratings...
