North Coast Pranqster, 7.6% ABV, 20 IBU, Belgian Strong Pale Ale. Lots of head that lasts. Nose is slight citrus, smells "fresh". Taste is also citrus, not much bitterness, carbonation moderate to heavy. Very drinkable - could put a number of these away on a hot day, and the alcohol would sneak up on you since it doesn't come through on the taste. This would be good to serve guests who are used to BMC, though would be good to give them a heads-up on the 7.6% ABV. This is going on my favorites list.

On tap at Milk Money in Providence, and served in a pint glass:

Appearance: pours a hazy, but very bright orange color. Carries a thick, sudsy off-white head that lingers for a very long time.

Aroma: lots of spice, and lots of nice. No booze present, but lots of coriander, some mild fruitiness, and some pepper spiciness.

Taste: malty and sweet, with lots of yeast character present as well. Some pepper, some lemon, lots of malt. Really enjoyed this one. Very drinkable and smooth, even at 7.6%

Feel: smooth, soft mouthfeel, with a sticky finish.

Overall: a really nice brew, and one I'd happily drink any time.

L = Hazy light gold with a nice head.
S = Faint orange peel and banana peel.
T = Very light bitterness, orange rind.
F = Light carbonation, a little silky/creamy
O = Hard to identify taste right off. It had to warm up a little before started to reveal itself. Subtle beer, but very nice.

Poured into a 13 oz tulip glass not sure if the bottle date. Pours a hazy orange, with a 3 inch fluffy white head, that settles quickly and leaves some hints of lace behind.

Smell clove, banana, biscuit, lime, caramel, and plum.

Taste follows big clove, biscuit, banana, bubblegum, raisin bread, and plum.

Mouthfeel is maybe medium, nice amount of life, a little bit dry, and nice drinkability.

Overall this is a nice Belgian, wish it had a little more body, but nice beer.

Poured with a billowing two-finger head, dissipating but holding its retention, with the perfect carbonation keeping a constant pool of foam at the top of this beauty. Smells yeasty, bready and fruity. Banana, lemon zest, pear, biscuit and a touch of spice. Taste is much the same, but with attributes of clove, apple, straw, wheat, light bubblegum notes, earthiness.

Very creamy with a smoothness that lingers; light bodied, soft carbonation, a little sweet but balanced really well. Exceedingly crisp. Lip smacking good. An excellent straightforward take on the Belgian gold pale style that has come to be one of my favourites. Will enjoy again.

Pours a hazy golden orange with a foamy medium sized foamy head. Little to no lacing. Notes of spicy yeast and lemon in the aroma. The taste follows suit, with a nice, spicy yeast typical of Belgian ales. Very pleasant flavor, and the smooth mouth feel makes this easy to drink. Overall, this is a great rendition of a Belgian style ale. I would certainly pick one up to enjoy while watching the cycling Spring Classics or cyclocross.

Served in a 12oz snifter.

I really enjoyed this beer. It pours nicely. Not too frothy. Smell's like a nice Belgian golden ale. As far taste the spicy flavor isn't overwhelming. The look has a gorgeous golden hue

Served in a tulip with the Superman logo (don't ask).

Immediately pours a delightful golden blonde haze with sediment floating and settling simultaneously as the head develops into a creamy 2 finger form. It disappears as soon as it appears however and leaves a small ring of bubble circumferentially in the glass.

Aroma is of cheaply spiced yeast and biscuit malt, a high floral bill, along with some hallertau hops and faint ginger.

The taste is a totally different animal. Just floored. It starts out with some banana rum-alcohol flavors, and counters with light floral hops and a crisp malt backbone. The finish is of warm alcohol and chewed bubblegum.

Feel is gloriously carbonated, with delightful shelving of the body stacking in at about medium weight, and finishing light, fruity, crisp, and semi-dry.

This is a beer I will seek out and drink again. A new favorite for a pale ale.

Pale orange marmalade pour with substantial head and a steady stream of carbonation. Immediate aromas with my nasals a foot away. Belgium spice candy, yeasty and biscuity malt. Taste follows nose. Add a citrus note of coriander and a peppery spice. Medium body and creamy texture. Tastes linger well. This brew got character and makes for a flavor full session. Solid ale all around. Would buy again.

Great brewer located in a great coast.

A – As it should: thick, cloudy orange body with a significant white, foamy head. But as much lacing as best Belgiums.

S – Spicy yeast, hay, grass, and fall leaves, banana aromas.

T – Follows smell plus so much more... offers a bread core that turns into as a reviewer wrote "banana bread" Lots of spice cabinet and fruits.

F – The weight, carbonation and yeast are great.

O: up there with the real deal.

I would say this is my favorite American Belgian Ales (strong ale).

L: Nice cloudy orangey golden color. Pours a nice head that lasts

T: Spice, banana clove, very smooth with a little warmth at the finish. The spice adds a nice touch and I like how there is no fruitiness.

S: tastes like it smells

very good American made beer

This beer pours a hazy straw with an exuberant head. The aromas lead with nuttiness, almost like roast almonds, followed by banana and cinnamon. The flavor begins with malty, bready, nutty tones, followed by banana and golden raisin, with cinnamon and nutmeg on the swallow, and the a quick return to the fruity flavors. The mouthfeel is zesty and lively, though with plenty of body. Overall this is a really great belgian style beer, with no pretensions. Also, a steal at the price.

Pours orange in color; 1 finger of white colored head.

Aroma is of citrus, spicy yeast, coriander, and some honey-like sweetness.

Taste is very good! Crisp carbonation and citrus start the sip off. Good carbonation throughout the sip. Yeast is present and spicy but not dominating. The beer is more on the citrusy crisp side than on the yeasty-spice side. Still an adequate amount of spice is present. Near the middle of the mouth, the honey sweetness catches up. It's a nice caramelized sugar taste. The finish is actually not too sweet; it is pleasantly dry. It isn't super dry but just enough to draw me in for another sip. With the dryness is tons of fresh pear juice.

Overall, one of the better US produced versions. Good balance of flavors with prominent citrus and a crisp finish. I see this pairing well with Apple cider braised pork, braised beans, and sautéed garlic kale. It gets a 90/100.

L: Poured from a 750 mL into a tulip, pours a dark hazy orange with a nice white head, about a fingers worth of foam that thins out, some lacing occurring

S: Oh jeez, this has a rather musty stench, I'm used to Belgian funk, but this is a borderline ammonia/urine scent.

T: A Wheat nose with spice, that fades into a bit of sweet malt with a slight amount of citrus, nothing overwhelming.

F: Good for the style, Medium bodied and high carbonation

O: Perhaps I have overindulged with the Belgians again, but this beer is rather par for the course. My biggest problem is the disconnect from the smell and taste, a pretty underwhelming showing from a legendary brewery like North Coast. Perhaps if on sale, Pranqster might be worth investigating if you are just that dedicated to Belgian-style ales.

Serving Type: Bottle
Consumed: 9.13.15

A: 4.25 Pours a slightly hazy, reddish-gold. The two-inch off-white head has good retention and leaves some lace.

S: 4.25 Aromas are classic Belgian pale ale. The yeast dominates with estery clove, grapes, banana, orange peel, and mild hay. There is some malt presence and a touch of hops as well.

T: 4.25 Starts off a bit sweet before moving into all the esters from the nose. Lots of spice and yeast on the palate while the malt steps back a bit. The finish has a pleasant mineral quality developing into light bitterness.

M: 4.5 The body is nice and substantial while remaining drinkable and refreshing. Carbonation is on point too.

O: 4.25 Classic example of a Belgian pale ale. Lots of esters while still letting some of the malt shine. Very drinkable and delicious.

Slight sweetness up front rolls right in to the big Belgian yeast profile- yeast, banana, soft white peppery spice. Slight hints of citrus/orange combine with slight breadiness in the finish. The classic Belgian candy sugar dries out this beer nicely. Light bodied. Soft carbonation. Alcohol is well covered. The only way you know it's 7.6% is when you start feeling it about a half bottle in. Supremely drinkable. A great beer. One of my favorites. Wish I had another right now.

A nice cirtus and wheat aroma. A nice initial wheat flavor to it, but then I get a little emptiness in a citrus aftertaste. A good enough beer, but nothing remarkable.
