It's been a while since my last review, but wow was it worth the wait! As one member mentioned it pours out like motor oil, dark as the night. Dark hues in the glass. I even tried holding a light up to the other side to get some color- but little came through. Great world class head that cliinnggs to the sides.
The smell is chocolaty and for me- no hint of the high alcohol. There is an espresso hint and roasted malts.
Taste is complex, and very good. On the front side is a small small hint of burnt coffee, and much chocolate- but quickly followed by the malts, with bitter hops in there. It ends with a slight sweet uptake. So it rounds out nicely.
Mouthfeel is fantastic. Very slightly thick and creamy with malts rolling over your tongue.
Generally I like all beers, but I am mostly an IPA man. My fave of all time being Herculese Double IPA. But I must say- this is THE best Russian Stout I have ever tasted. It's not a session beer by any means, but worthy of a taste. Extremely well crafted and tasty.
