Pours a dense pitch black into a snifter. 2 inch mocha colored foamy head that stays on for a while.
Rich dark chocolate on the nose, yeast and hops!
A punch in the palate with hops, sweet malts, dark chocolate and hints of coffee! Alcohol is present at 9%, but it doesn't overwhelm.
An amazing Imperial Stout and a perfect addition to this cold evening! Hoppy to the core!
Highly recommended!

Poured from 12 oz bottle into NB globe glass. This particular bottle is about 1 year old.

Pours a nice black color. Almost two finger head that is a light brown color. Head diminishes fairly quickly to a half finger. Appears to have lower carbonation. Light lacing.

Nose is what I would consider an RIS should be like. This one contains , roast, stronger on the chocolate, lighter on the coffee, and maybe a touch of oats. Some earthy hops lingering in the background.

It starts out a little sweet with a nice dose of dark chocolate. Next there is light bitterness that cuts through the beer quite nicely. It finishes with a nice roastiness and that touch of oats. The roast lingers for a little bit on the palate.

Good fuller body with a slight creaminess. Low carbonation.

Overall a solid RIS. I would consider this a good RIS staple because of the price and accessiblity. Dries out as it warms up, as where I would have liked it to stay slightly sweet. Will enjoy again I'm sure.

A - Pours like black coffee with tan head, some lacing.

S - Fresh roasted coffee, freshly torched wood, toffee, caramel, and cocoa.

T - Roast and chocolate, alcohol hotness, and lighter notes of caramel, peanut, and hay. Very heavy on roast character.

M - Not thin, not cloyingly thick. Average carbonation for a beer of this style and ABV.

O - For the easy-to-get stouts, this is pretty good, especially given the price. It's a bit hot fresh, but aged would probably be much better.

12 oz bottle into a snifter Bottle was aged 4-6 months.

A- Pitch black w/ a one finger thick dark brown head. Leaves a nice lacing om the sides of the snifter.

S- Has a nice RIS aroma, chocolate and roasted malts some through prominatly. Following slight coffee, licorice and hints of wood as well.

T- Nice smokey nutty chocolate taste up front giving way to some warming on the back end from the alcohol. As the beer warms the roasted malts and smokey notes become more prominent.

M- Smooth mouthfeel w/ nice carbonation but not as smooth as other RIS's. Also get a tingling in the mouth and tongue from the alcohol.

O- This is a very good RIS,but imo not an exceptional one. I enjoy this beer and have had it several times. Its a very good beer with a very reasonable price tag and a wide distribution. All of these factors keep Old Rasputin in my beer fridge, its just not the best beer in the fridge.

assuming 2011 bottle poured into DFH signature glass

A- pitch black with 2 finger khaki colored head. When held up to light, nothing but black is evident.

S- a bit boozy. dark fruit, with a bit of chocolate. Roasty stout aroma.

T- Dry and boozy, yet doesn't taste too "hot" if that even makes sense. Roasty stout flavor with hints of dark fruit and the classic slight coffee and chocolate.

M- Thick mouthfeel. the more mouthfeel the better in my mind, and this one does not disappoint. Quite impressive compared to my expectations.

D- This one is fairly drinkable for the style. the mouthfeel impedes it, but the taste doesn't burn out the pallet nor overpower the tastebuds.

O- without counting the value into review, this one is still a great solid RIS. I plan on getting plenty of this to age and experiment with as it is so cost effective. Buy in bulk and buy often.

Everyone swears by this so I figured it's time to try it. Let's see if it lives up to it's legacy.

Pours pitch black with a massive creamy brown head. Big Chocolate coffee and charcoal on the nose with trace amounts of detectable alcohol. Head shows no signs of dieing down anytime soon.

Definitely a good tasting stout. Flavors kind of slap your tongue around a bit. Chocolate and tobacco up front with a thick chewy body that thins out a little on the swallow unfortunately. Dark chocolate sweetness is wiped away but a nice spicy hop finish. Layered in a strange way. Slight warming finish from the alcohol.

Beer is getting better as it warms, starting to love it.

Not my favorite but good for sure. Good for sipping.

Creamy tan head with a couple fingers of volume. Black brown in colour like when midnight closes it's eyes.

Smells of fruity hops, dark chocolate, and coffee.

Tastes like black licorice that goes from subtly sweet to agressively bitter. Dark chocolate is around before the bitterness takes over. Nice lacing that thins to almost nothing as it drys.

Mouth feel is subtle then quickly errupts into an effervescent coating which follows the sweet to strong bitter profile.

Get this beer and drink it. Strong alcohol, black colour, and formidable bitterness are all staples of this style. F**k yeah.
