A- The best part about this beer is how it looks. It is extremely dark, almost black, with a brown head. It looks delicious

S- Not much of a smell, but what you can smell is pretty similar to the taste.

T- Roasty, Tofee taste apparent, but it definitely gets overwhelmed by the alcohol taste. It has a warming finish, but this beer, to me, was too bitter and tasted too strongly of alcohol. Had an almost soap-like taste.

M- Not as thick as you might think, has a creamy consistency.

An amazing beer and terrific in a special very American way. Taste and look were the best part of the beer, with smell lacking for an Imperial Stout.
My opinion is that even though this is an American Classic, this beer is really an over grown American/Foreign Extra Stout.

Imperial Stouts are billed as having aromas of dark fruit, burnt sugar, and aggressive yeast aromas and traditionally if true "English Stouts" don't have such a heavy Rbarley/coffee note.

Despite this, the beer was soooo drinkable and I love idea of an overgrown carrying a big stick stout.

Pours black with a tinge of burgundy and piles of thick, creamy stiff sepia head that rims and just doesn't fade, leaving an abstract art installation worth of lace. Roast in the form of ash, bark, loam, an umame/fish note, and big orange oil hops - intriguing.
Oily espresso, char, hint of boysenberry, but also a warming undertone of fig and prune juice then a 1-2 punch of roast acidity and punishing hop bitterness plus a pinch of salt.
Citrus oil finish and colossal bitter linger. Medium to full, clingy and sticky, silky, no burn.

New record holder for the bitterest stout I've ever tasted, and possibly the hoppiest, too. It could be ever so slightly too thin, but probably has to be to stay drinkable. I can totally understand how this can have 3000+ reviews and still get the score it does. Amazing that a recipe this old has not been definitively bettered - and I'd argue it hasn't.

Masterpiece.

A: thick, 3 finger brown head. Pitch black. Nicely carbed.

S: dark fruit, chocolate, molasses.

T: molasses, thick black coffee, lingering bitterness, sharp alcohol bite, more booze, roastiness.

M: dry, leaves mouth feeling like a desert with a hint of alcohol emanating out.

O: would definitely stave off the cold in russia. I'm sure rasputins fermaltahyded phallace would also be engorged even in the frightfully coldest of nights. All things aside. Wonderfully drinkable. Great for the style.

Served from a bottle into a Delirium tulip glass.

A - Poured dark brown with light brown one-finger head. No light penetration.

S - Smells of coffee and roasted malt

T - Taste starts off a bit hoppy. Chocolate and coffee tastes with a warm alcohol finish.

M - Light carbonation. Intense flavor but goes down smooth. Very good beer.

No freshness date; Poured in a snifter.

A - Two inch creamy tan head with nice retention; Pitch black in color; Nice lacing left all around the glass

S - Notes of tobacco, molasses, licorice, toffee, and some sugary sweetness; Faint alcohol smell present amongst the very malty aroma

T - Tobacco, molasses, sugary malts, and a touch of licorice in the beginning that turns into toasty caramel flavors in the back end with mild alcohol warmth; A bit of chocolate and subtle dark fruits, like raisins, are present throughout the taste; Slight bitterness felt in the finish

M - Low to medium carbonation; Full bodied; Semi-dry finish; Some warmth from the alcohol detected

O - With a name like Old Rasputin, you know this beer is going to bring some serious flavor and heat. The complexity of the flavor was very enjoyable and robust and, in combination with the alcohol warmth, made for a nice beer to knock the chill off. I understand why this beer is so popular as it's a great representation of the RIS style.
