Picked up a growler of this from State Line liquors in Elkton MD.

A: Beautiful dark motor oil black with a small creamy brown head

S: Malt, chocolate, oats, dark fruits, alcohol

T: This stuff is almost perfect. Creamy and smooth chocolate on the front and finishes with some bitterness and a hint of the alcohol.

M: I don't know if it's because it was from a growler but very little carbonation. Super thick the way a good stout should be.

O: An amazing stout for the price.

Not normally a stout drinker but had to check this out because of all the hype. The four packs are reasonably priced at about $8, and sport attractive black and gold packaging.

Poured into a goblet, opaque black, with a chocolate colored short head that reduces after several minutes into a thin tan film of minute bubbles. This beer is not see through at all in this glass, and only around the very edges does light start to penetrate.

Chocolate coffee aroma with hops, also jammy fruit, malty. Flavor is impactful, dark candied fruit, berry, hop bitters, choco-coffee, light mint, very much agreeing with the nose. The mouthfeel is heavy but tighter than something like a wee heavy, and not as sweet. Definitely boozy at 9%, but not setting your mouth on fire. Carbonation is low but present.

Overall, fantastic. Totally lives up to the hype.

Had on-tap at Ancora New Orleans. Served in a New Belgium goblet.

A- Pours a fully opaque black color with a full inch of frothy light brown head that retains very well before slowly melting away to a thick ring around the edge of the glass and a large bump of surface foam. Wisps of lacing stick to the glass.

S- Rich roasty cocoa aroma with notes of vanilla, coffee and even black cherry.

T- I always forget how sweet this beer is. The black cherry continues on with the flavor and mingles with the dark roast creating a chocolate-covered cherry type of effect. There are also notes of anise and more vanilla in the finish. Moderate hop bitterness.

M- Thick and somewhat creamy with medium carbonation and a full body.

O- A classic version of the style. While I prefer it on nitro-pour if having it on-tap, it's just fine with CO2.

Old Rasputin on tap at Zeitgeist. smell of coffee and roasty malt, taste is super creamy with a thorough bitterness and dark malt with toffee sweetness toward the end, great balance and drinkability. This is so creamy and smooth for the strength, no perceptible alcohol just a rich full bodied stout, light creamy carbonation and lots of rich roasty flavor. Keeps a creamy head till the end. Not much bad to say about this beer, tons of rich balanced flavor, great character. Would definitely have again.

Bottle with etching 31050530. Pours pitch black, light tan head. Its an RIS.

Dark fruit aroma, some raisin, and prunes. Some alcohol but hidden way backstage on this one.

taste is espresso-like in bitterness up front and follows up with semi-sweet chocolate mixed in with dark dried fruit like the prunes picked up in the aroma. Smooths out as it warms and the upfront bitterness backs off.

Not overly carbonated but more so than I was expecting. Pretty new to stouts so not sure what the goal is here. For me, it work here. Thickens as it warms and leaves stickiness on my lips.

Like I said, pretty new to stouts. I like this beer especially on a day like today, raw and cold. I'll certainly go for this again and it seems to have opened me up to more than the ipa/dipa that are usually my go to's
