Bottle purchased as a 4-pack for $12 at Happy Harry's, Grand Forks, North. Poured into a Duvel snifter at 50F on a day when snow returned to the ground.

A: A stellar looking beer that is ink vblack with a two finger tan head that lasts seemingly forever as a cap, lacing wonderfully all the while.
S: A very interesting nose with initially a strong dose of liquorice and molasses off the top with a int of high alochos. The nose then mellows to a more chocolately / cocoa with a hint of cinnamon and pepper spice underlying it all.
T: Loads of roasted barley and coffee notes initially that give way to a slightly sweet body and a strong earthy bitterness that builds over time. Notes of chocolate underlie the entire beer. Nice, and enjoyable not to have a super cloying RIS here.
M: The mouthfeel here is a little odd. It is not thick and sticky like some RISes, but they somehow make it come across as almost watery. Super odd. The only thing that is holding this beer back. It needs to be a touch thicker as the bitterness and sweetness is well balanced. No fusels or high alcohols present here though!
O: Rock solid lower ABV (by today's ultra high ABV examples that seem to be all the 'world's best beers') RIS that delvers a nice balance between flavours.

A: Super dark and creamy. Head looks like hot chocolate.
S: Roasty, chocolatey, hints of alchohol.
T: Doesn't drink like an imperial at all. Super smooth with roasty chocolate. A kick of alchohol finishes it off but it doesn't linger. A nice finishing touch.
M: Perfect. Sits with a perfect amount of bubbles and the nice flavors really come through.

Overall a great beer. I was reluctant to try it because usually imperials have too much ABV for me but this one did a great job of working in compliment with it. A must try.

12oz bottle poured into tulip.

A - Jet black with a small dense tan head.

S - Pleasant aroma of roasted malt and sweet milk chocolate. I also detect some coffee and fruity hops.

T - Roasted malt and sweet chocolate up front, followed by dark fruits and a strong coffee bitterness. There's a surprising amount of hops in this brew. Finishes with a blend of charred malts, coffee and some mild bitterness.

M - Full bodied, silky smooth, light carbonation. Warming alcohol.

O - An excellent imperial stout. Offers an array of rich, complex flavors. This beer is meant to be savored. Awesome label too.

12oz bottle, pours opaque black with a bubbly light brown head. Good retention, good lacing. Aromas are dark chocolate, piny hops, and anise; slightly boozy. Tastes are rich and complex with notes of unsweetened dark chocolate, bittersweet chocolate, pine, anise, and is slightly roasty with the pungent, piny hops lingering on the palate right through past the bitter finish. Mouth-feel is full-bodied and rather oily. Alcohol is well concealed. Overall, a favorite Russian Imperial Stout of mine: good quality, it's readily available year-round, good price point, and it's consistent.

Very complex in a pleasant way. Burnt caramel, hops, coffee notes, and a somewhat "woody-earthy" quality. One of the best all around RIS you can buy. The quality from this brewer is very constent; I have never had a "bad" lot from this company. This brew always lives up to its great reputation. Very reasonably priced at about 9 bucks per 4 pack.

Poured into a New Belgium globe glass. The beer is pitch black with a thick dark espresso foamy head that takes forever to dissipate. Good sticky lacing persists. The beer smells like alcohol, big time. But through that is bitter chocolates and perhaps roasted malts. The beer tastes warm and boozy up front. After that, raisins, bitter chocolate, and burnt malts. A slightly smokey presence is also noted. The mouthfeel is bright, carbonated, and dry.

Overall, the alcohol just ruins everything for me here. It's in the smell, the mouthfeel, and the taste. Doesn't leave much room leftover for taste ... I know my viewpoint clashes with nearly every BA out there, but that's why it's MY viewpoint.
