A: Luscious dark brown with ZERO light coming through. 1.5 fingers of head with good retention, and legs that could hold up a table.

S: Decadence. Rich chocolate and molasses notes take the foreground with just a touch of nuttiness on the periphery. Strong blast of the alcohol here, but that could be the snifter talking.

T: Strong burnt quality up front that transitions seamlessly to malts, malts, and malts. The sweetness is cut nicely by the alcohol and everything just comes together beautifully. Synergy is a word that comes to mind.

MF: I could savor this goodness all day long. This is my ideal when it comes to carbonation level and thickness. Bold enough to be called an Russian Imperial, but not heavy and syrupy like so many I've tried have been. This is how it should be done.

O: I don't know what I love more; how delicious this beer is, or how it's freaking EVERYWHERE. This is more than a beer. It's a testament that good things can be right in your backyard or, in this case, Trader Joe's. A perennial favorite that's gotten me through many cold winter nights.

This is the only beer I would ever give a perfect score to. Never before has such a masterpiece been crafted. It is said that one even gains intelligence from drinking this wonderful brew.

A: Oh man the waiter brought me a schooner of motor oil again, atop sat an inch of thick tan head. As I sipped, it laced amazingly. When the whole 16oz was gone, it was still laced head to toe like a magnificent art piece.

S: Deep roasted hops with caramel and coffee aromas with light spices filled my senses, followed by a barely noticeable alcohol smell. It was delectable and made my mouth water.

T: Given the alcohol content and other imperials I've had, I expected a much more bitter harsher taste. This was quite the opposite, it was smooth and delicious, very easy to drink and enjoy. An amateur beer drinker could enjoy this just as much as our seasoned vets.

M: This would have only felt better in my mouth if it was vagina. It wasnt sticky, wasn't too thick nor too thin. It was perfect, absolutely perfect.

Overall: 100/100. 2 thumbs up. Worlds most perfect beer in this category

A - Pours the beautiful black of used motor oil and only a little thinner. Very little carbonation in evidence - just a thin ring of very small tan bubbles.

S - Notes of coffee, chocolate, and a bitter hint come through a powerful malty sweetness that also carries a somewhat fruity character. Brings to mind dark chocolate covered raspberries. There is a lot going on here and it is well worth letting the beer warm a bit to experience it all.

T - Strong roasted malt is quite reminiscent of a really good coffee (sort of like Turkish). Bitterness seems nearly entirely from the dark malt (perhaps black patent) without a distinct hop character in evidence. Not as dry as you might expect with the fruit notes coming through late. Very enjoyable.

M - More carbonation that the pour might lead to you expect. Slightly oily with a viscous coating left on the roof of the mouth and the tongue after swallowing that lets the flavor linger for a long time.

O - A wonderful example of the style worthy revisiting frequently.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into 3 wine glasses (splitting this one). Pitch black beer with a rich tan head on it. Not much active bubbling visible.

S - Nice roasty malty aroma. No discernible hops.

T - Sweet and dark caramel notes. Followed up by a bitter smoky roastiness and lingering astringent bitterness in the finish. A nice roasted smoke flavor lingers for a while. Despite the high alcohol, there isn't much alcohol heat in this one.

M - Full-bodied with low carbonation.

O - An exceptionally drinkable and well-balanced beer. I'm not a big stout drinker, but this one is exceptional.

This beer pours into an almost obsidian black, with a thick, tan head that develops on top, leaving slight lacing. Perfect. Smell, to my nose, is of roasted coffee and chocolate notes, with a definite booziness.

Taste is absolutely wonderful. A very powerful and richly roasted malt is upfront; it has quite a kick. This melds into a bitter chocolate middle that smooths as you to sip away. This has a LONG, tasty aftertaste of dark grains, espresso, and more bittersweet chocolate notes. The feel thick and creamy, with a pleasant warming quality that sticks around long with the aftertaste.

Overall: This is an incredible stout. If you are looking for a robust, powerful stout, then Rasputin RIS is for you.

On on Nitro at Wild Monk. Served in a snifter.

A: Pours a jet black color with a perfectly smooth and creamy tan head. The head sticks around for the entire time and leaves huge sticky sheets of lace. Just a beautiful looking beer.

S: Nice and robust roasted malts. There is some bitter bakers chocolate in there with a little bit of fudge.

T: The taste follows the nose but is a tad more complex. Nice roasted malts and bitter bakers chocolate up front. Sweet dark fruits are more present in the taste, almost like a caramel glazed prune. As the beer warms it gets a little sweet with some milk chocolate presents itself in the finish.

M: Medium bodied with a little chew. Nice creamy mouthfeel with a medium carbonation level.

O: Very great balance of roast, chocolate and sweetness. Having it on nitro gives it a creamier mouthfeel and a must try for an Rasputin fan.

Poured into a pint glass it gave a syrupy look into a dark black hue. Beautiful tan head with a coffee scent. What was interesting was the chocolate notes that came after sniffing it several times. The taste was a pure pleasure with soft roasted coffee and a hint of chocolate, much like the scent. This is everything I want in a stout but the last tastes were overwhelmed with an alcohol taste. Two sips close to perfection!

Pours black. Very nice appearance with a kahki head that leaves some lacing.

The roast is predominant with both smell and taste. There is a aroma of dark chocolate in the back ground. Burnt espresso on the finish.

Mouthfeel is nice enough. Long dry, bitter finish.

Overall this is a nice RIS. I would like a little less roast and a little more sweetness. I am a little let down by this legend of RIS.
