A: Pours out as black-brown with 3 fingers of frothy cafe-coloured head. Looks like the best thickest coffee you could ever how to get ...but beer flavour...this can't get better!

S: Rich smells of coco powder, fresh ground coffee, molasses, and deep toasted malts. Some hints of dark fruit and subtle wet earth.

T: Big flavours and not for the timid. Deep malts and molasses with coco. A bit of acidic coffee, which balances off the rich flavours well. Despite the malt flavour there is a good hit of hops from start to finish.

M: Full bodied and low carbonation, lovely syrup sensation that adds to the rich deep flavour.

O: This beer is rich and complex, it pair incredibly well with dark chocolate. Fantastic thick and flavourful brew that will knock you off your seat if you forget your drinking a 9% brew.
Delicious and complex, hints of hops and tonnes of malt, would be great sipping cause the flavours just keep getting better as the brew warms.

[Best served in a Snifter]

The pour was a deep dark black with a large (2-3 finger) medium brown creamy head that lasted throughout, finally reducing down to a large thick cap of foam with excellent sheeting of sticky lace.

The aroma was wonderfully robust with a burnt dark bread malt and a moderate dose of a leathery yeast with notes of molasses, dark chocolate, roasted coffee and a decent scent of alcohol.

The taste started with a very mild sweetness that was slightly subdued by a rich bitterness and had notes of dark chocolate and molasses. Then it became extremely bitter and mildly acidic with notes of vanilla and coffee and a strong alcohol presence towards the end. The flavor hung around for a very long time letting the taste of an alcohol infused espresso settle in nicely on the taste buds.

Mouthfeel was extremely full in body with a dry creamy texture and a nice soft carbonation.

Overall this is an exceptional Imperial Stout with a ton of flavor and a smooth drinkability...

The first time I tried this beer, it was refrigerated in the store, and drunk shortly afterwards. The beer tastes a bit bitter at a colder serving temperature.

This tasting was totally different. It was served at about 50-55, which makes a big difference. The color is a dark chocolate, with a four fingered head and a slight honey smell.

The mouth feel is a bit carbonated and more malty with warming.

The highlight of this beer is its finish: a complex nutty lemon, chocolate mixed with dark coffee. The flavors intensify with warming.

This is a great beer: serve warm!

Single bottle from Knightly Spirits in Orlando. It's been ages since I had the XII - would be awesome to try the classic. Love the bottle design.

Poured into a nonic. Black as the deepest darkest corners of hell, with a sturdy mocha head. Lots of lacing. Splendid looking brew.

Nose is rich and complex. Ground coffee, maybe a lite espresso, cream, roasted malt - all the usual suspects.

Lovely sweet chocolate entry followed by a great roasted espresso burst. Really enjoyable brew. Finish is long and bitter, with that sweet chocolate making another appearance.

Velvety feel, light carbonation, somewhat creamy. Coats the tongue well.

Pound for pound one of the best stouts around. A great after dinner brew, or whenever the mood strikes. My only regret is I have but one bottle to drink...

4-pack $ 8.99

A: No smoke on opening, aggressive pour into a schooner, jet black, creamy head 1 finger thick and tan, nice retention and lacing
S: Caramel malt, sweet, coffee, boozy
T: Perfect hops, rich malt, nice finish, coffee
M: Thick with perfect carbonation, sticky with thick malted barley but not syrupy.
O: I like this beer! perfect balance, rich, 9%, and not too heavy.

I was looking forward to trying this beer. I like the label. It's made in the USA. What's not to like? I would buy more.

OK, I couldn't save any of 4-pack and there may be a new McHaggis on the way, I highly recommend this beer.
