Pretty much black. Towering tan head on the pour into my snifter. Four fingers high and poofing at the top. Lacing as it decompresses.

Semi-musty roast quality with mocha notes. The coffee is a cafe au lait and the chocolate is rather milky. Slight lactic sweet aroma. Grainy with a burnt toast character. Subtle complexity. Nice.

Bitter, smoky impy stout with huge roastiness, char, leather, and echoes of black coffee notes. This is a relatively fresh bottle, so I must note a boasting earthy/leafy hop in the taste. Some nice dry booziness in the finish. Burly flavor. Such great roasted malt bitterness.

Body has medium viscosity and lower tier carb. Alcohol levels are right where they need to be. Easy to finish one. A second would be a little difficult.

Such a quality RIS that is easily attainable and distinctive in taste profile. The gem among bitter, roasty, smoky RIS's.

A: pitch black with a very fluffy tan head that sticks around and leaves a good amount of lacing

S: malts, coffee, dark fruits, chocolate

T: dark chocolate and bitter espresso followed by sweet fruit like dates or raisins, gives way to a dry and slightly bitter finish

M: medium bodied, slightly carbonated, warming alcohol sensation

O: Being that the imperial stout is my new favorite style of beer, I have to say this is one the best I've tried so far. It is more mellow than some of the others I tried, and is a bit more heavy on the coffee flavors. I will definitely be coming back for more. In fact, I think I'll have another right now.

Poured from a nitro-tap at Tyler's (Carrboro, NC) into a pint glass.

A: Massive mocha head, much lighter than it is from the bottle or on draft without the nitro infussion. Crazy thick lacing.

S: Roasted malt, a bit musty and not too dissimilar to Ron Burgundy's place: he has many leather-bound books and his apartment smells of rich mahogany.

T: Espresso, tofee, burnt malt & dark chocolate sweet in the finish.

M: Creamy (nitro) and sweet, fully coating the mouth upfront and ending with a thinner bitterness.

O: Potent beer milkshake.

Appearance - Pours dark as night (cola black) with a finger width of creamy tan head. Some slight bubbles present.

Smell - Dark chocolate, cherries, hint of vanilla.

Taste - The dark chocolate flavour is the most predominant. Slight hint of cherry and nut (almost like a hazelnut). Nice bittersweet aftertaste.

Mouthfeel - Medium bodied and slightly creamy with light carbonation.

Overall - Quite a unique imperial stout by North Coast. I was surprised by the intensity of the dark chocolate and cherry flavours. Well balanced and very enjoyable.
