A..Beautiful dark black pour. Only reason I didn't give it a 5.0 is there was almost no lacing.

S..Plenty of chocolate notes and a pronounced malty presence. Truly inviting.

T..Toffee, coffee and chocolate flavors, all of which are more complex than anticipated. Great smokey taste, just great!

M..Very easy to drink considering the high ABV and style. Great example of the style.

O..Wish I had not waited so long to try this incredible Russian Imperial Stout. Looking forward to having this one again soon!

Appearance:
Pours a coffee black. Huge tan head that reminds me of whip cream and maple syrup and lasts forever. Ever so slight amber coloring in the glass, but no light is escaping from it, it is a black abyss. Lacing is thick and frothy, like the fangs of the ocean, or sea-foam wallowing in a tidal pool. It sticks to the glass nicely and stays for quite some time.

Smell:
Smells of a malty pang. Sweet and tangy in the initial whiff with slight roasted and chocolate malts present.

Taste:
Very smoky on the tongue, far more so than I got from the smell. Sweeter malts can be found in the aftertaste, but for the most part the roasted malts power through with lots of thick smoke. Vanilla notes can be found in the background character.

Mouthfeel:
Light and frothy, but a little harsh with smoky power of the malts. Fairly bubbly, too, on the tongue, with a long and bitter smoke aftertaste. Sits a little thickly in the stomach, as is expected with the style. Nice Russian Imperial Stout.

Overall:
I like this beer. Its smoky like a boy scout’s campfire, carries a lighter ABV for an imperial stout but still plenty of alcohol, and it fits the style well.

A - Black body, 1 finger of tan head

S - Chocolate, coffee.

T - Typical stout profile. Chocolate, coffee, slight anise, roasted malts.

M - Full, decent amount of carbonation.

Not my favorite but a good example of a russian imperial stout. Bonus words.

A - RIS black, dark as night. A light mocha colored 2 finger head that quickly dissipated to a light black film. Moderately carbonated.

S - Chocolaty with slight coffee scent. Roasted malts and a hint of some dark fruits. Expected it to come off stronger scented, but even after letting it warm up a bit, it doesn't impress me too much.

T - First thing to hit you is a smooth chocolate taste from the roasted malts. A slight coffee aftertaste. I don't get much of the dark fruit that I thought I was smelling. Its blend of chocolate and coffee flavorings work really well. Not too dominant, but very tasty. No presence of alcohol in my tasting, which is pretty awesome at 9% abv

M - Medium bodied, which threw me for a loop at first. Expected it to be a full bodied brew. Smooth silky feeling coats the mouth with a perfect amount of carbonation. Solid RIS mouthfeel.

O - This beer is better than the sum of its parts! Appearance, smell, taste and mouthfeel are above average, but nothing really special. It translates to something that comes together very specially. Its so readily available, cheap and tasty. This brew is in a league of its own. Everything that is better than it is harder to find year round and more expensive, but damn near comparable in every other department.

Edit: 1 year old aged Old Rasputin

A - Same

S - Almost the same, more chocolate to it.

T - Chocolate milk with some coffee and vanilla finish. Amazing stuff.

M - Smooth. I had this on nitro, which was amazing. The bottle aged is still really solid. Full bodied with an amazingly thick finish. Great stuff.

O - Aged 1 year puts this stuff into world class range. Amazing fresh, even better aged. My favorite bargain stout!
