Enjoyed on-NITRO-tap @ the Royale - Food & Spirits in St. Louis, MO for $4.50. Tapped from the Black/Gold Tap handle w/ Mr Rasputin on it into a 12oz Stemmed Goblet Glass.

Aroma- Tons of cocoa and a nice, clean roasted aroma comes across in this one. You can even smell the creaminess here! Very nice and smooth to the nose.

Appearance- Pours a 1.5, creamy head that has long lasting retention. Has the most opaque brown colored body possible.

Flavor- Roast, deep chocolate, smooth coffee richness, and well balanced beer are all characteristics of this one. Malt made this one up. Medium bitterness finishes up this quite enjoyable brew.

Mouthfeel- Medium-Full Bodied due to unreal creaminess, Light Carbonation, SMOOTH, and has tons of malt that stay forever on the palate.

Overall Impression- Wow! While having enjoyed this one many times in bottle form, I never had nitro until the other night. Huge creaminess and enjoyed every sip. Definitely recommend finding this on nitro and enjoying one or two.

Thick creamy head to it’s oily core it’s a joy to drink. A nice burnt chocolate/coffee flavor greets the nose. Rich, oily mouthful like a chaw of chewing tobaccoo but such a nice tangy flavor. The beer finishes rich and malty with a wonderful mix of hoppy goodness.

Poured into a snifter from a 12 oz bottle.

A: Black as night. Beautiful tan head, great retention

S: Robust roasted malt mixed with chocolate, coffee and a hint of vanilla.

T: Huge roasted malt that finishes in a tantalizing bitterness.

M: Perfect body. Coats the mouth like a hand in a glove. Wonderful!

O: Old Rasputin is a true classic, a truly amazing Russian Imperial Stout.

My first official review, so bear with me.

Appearance: pours completely jet black with a two finger tan head. Very thick pour. I personally love a thick beer so this has a lot of appeal to me.

Smell: Roasted malts, chocolate, a bit of vanilla maybe?

Taste: this doesn't hit like some of the 9.0% beers I've had in the past. Really pleasing taste of roasted malts and hints of vanilla.

Mouthfeel: as said earlier, this beer is thick. You can really feel the thickness, but it still goes down smooth.

Overall: this beer is pretty good, I am going to enjoy drinking the other three in the pack.

One of the most complex beers I've had in a very long time - flavors galore.

A - literally pitch black. Carbonation doesn't dance like a Guiness, but appearance similar. Good head, dark and creamy, decent retention - no lacing.

S - I'm going to skip this one

T - in your face flavors. Felt like I was getting hit in the face with a sack full of hops. Bursts of coffee and mocha, with a strong kick of alcohol and bitterness, almost a horseradish hint. But delicious.

M - great smooth and carbonation level, very refreshing. If your eyes were closed while drinking this, you would have no idea that it was this color or consistency.

O - Got a 4 pack, will probably last me a few weeks.

You want complexity? This beer has astonishing complexity. Gave as a gift to my father, a wine drinker, and it aced the test. It has different tastes at different moments, like a great wine.

That said, I have not had other Russian Imperial Stouts, so what I liked about it might just be trait of the style.

Astonishing molasses color and thickness. Smell not up to the rest of the beer.
