A - Darkest eggplant. Beautiful. Deep. Smooth. Had to take a picture, for the case this was some lucky strike.

S - man... tons of different smells, but very elegant. Slightly hoppy, nuts, slightly roasted malt

T - exactly what you would expect from a Stout. Again, elegancy is the word. Very reach, decently bitter aftertaste, roasted coffee beans, deep malts. Rich, dark, and yet - not aggressive.

M - did I mention elegancy yet....?

Overall - awesome. Stouts are not my cup of roasted coffee, but this one is must have option in my cabinet, for winter night, standalone drink, when you feel like a little taste of the dark side.
Can`t wait to try this one off the tap!

Served in a pint glass, b/c the pubtender was nice... and their pints hold more than their snifters.

Appearance- The darkest shade of brown you can hit before it becomes black. The head was the color of a solid chocolate milk.

Smell- Didn't take the time to smell it so much as drink it, so, yeah. Ignore my comment on this category.

Taste- Roast malt with caramel & brown sugar, with a booze-ish/chocolately aftertaste. Not at all a bad thing. Lets you know it's doing what it should. Head itself tastes like chocolate and brown sugar.

Mouthfeel- A bit thinner than most stouts I like to enjoy, but still amazing. Low carbonation and a dry finish.

Overall- Something I could have a couple of and be set for the night. An amazing attempt at a quality stout from the folks at North Coast.

Another wine drinkers' stout. A winter stout. Save for the end of your evening.

poured from 12oz bottle into a half liter glass... This beer gets better the longer you let it warm.

A - Two finger dense, late-rising, retentive, lacing, medium brown head that settles to a cover with lots of pretty lacing. Tar black-brown - dense. Serious. Winter.

S - Abundent. Sweet cocoa, dark fruits, expresso, and yes, soy sauce. Roasted malts, a railroad trail, and hops. Chocolate and burnt wood. Charcoal. Damp night air.

T - The taste is all of the smell, but more aggressive, with dark hot chocolate, espresso coffee, prune juice, and much roastiness. Russian coffee house. Starts sweet, stays syrupy, and then finished bitter. A bit of black pepper. Hops are underneath, and bubble up. Almost a dessert beer without being cloying.

M - The mouthfeel is great, but a bit syrupy, and peppery, and alcoholic. Too much so for me. (Unless its cold out), the body supports the complexity, the ABV which is more apparent than in Weyerbacher or BORIS.

Overall - Sipping beer. Strong. Worth letting it sit and warm. savor during and AFTER your meal. great after dinner stout. Order one instead of cognac. Seriously. You must try this.

Great after dinner with cheese.

Poured from a bottle (no freshness date) into a nonic pint glass.

A very thick and mocha colored head (about 3 fingers deep) sat on top of a pitch dark body... the darkest of browns, hell, this was black. The head lingered around for a good amount of time. Lacing eventually formed on the sides of the glass but a fluffy puff of head remained in the center of the beer throughout the majority of this experience.

Very toasty malts dominate the nose. A woody liquor smell (somewhere between whiskey and brandy) is present as well.

Full flavor. Goes down smooth and creamy. Leaves a slightly bitter finish. The aftertaste reminded me of an iced mocha.

Overall: Incredible amount of flavor. Very filling, you could have one of these in place of desert. This was fairly pricey in my market but I thought it was well worth it. This tastes better when there is snow on the ground but that is not always a reality for everyone... you get the idea though.

Bottom Line: Great flavor. Might not be the best introductory stout. If you want to put your money towards a quality stout, may as well put this one in the cart. Does not disappoint.
