From a bottle into a pint glass. Centimeter of brown cream, mash head. Nice thick lace clings still on the glass.

The smell of good cold coffee. Ripe black figs, and malt.

Dry on the tongue from start to finish. The sweetness is subdued by the dryness. Molasses, fig, good black rum, hops. Warm alcohol, and bourbon in the finish as the stout warmed.

I wanted something to chew on tonight, and got it with this fine malt. All I can picture is this brew coming out of a old dark stained sticky cask on a whaling ship. I believe I have taken a hour to finish this pint. It lingers on the tongue like a cigar from the night before, in a good way. Spectacular.

Update 10/23/13

Put this puppy on nitro and be wowed! Sweet mercy!

I have been wanting to try this for a while, and while out and about I found a four pack for 9 bucks. HAD to pick it up and try it.

A - Dark brown, with a 2 finger head which subsides to just a surface skim. Laces the whole way down the glass. Tons of it.

S - Roasted goodness, coffee, alcohol, just a hint of a sweet smell.

T - Burnt malts, roasted coffee beans, alcohol, chocolate, bitterness.

M - Not as thick as I had hope. Somewhat thin for the style, with a moderate amount of carbonation.

D - An decent RIS, but there are many others I'd rather drink.

Tasted Blind against Narwhal. Preferred Narwhal.

A - Fills the glass with a brew that is as black as the darkest night. Holds a creamy beige head which dwindles to a dainty but longlasting lacing.

S - Predominated by smoked oak, peat, tar and more smoke. Subtle hints of coffee.

T - As expected, I got a lots of burnt/smoked flavours here. Roasted malt, charred wood, moderate bitterness. Would have liked more vanilla or molasses to balance the abrasiveness.

M - Quite thick, but a touch more carbonated than I would have liked. Could have been a bit creamier.

O - Pretty good but slightly disappointed, as based on reputation, I would have expected this to dominate Narwhal. Just goes to show the value of a blind tasting.
