Imbibed on tap at Good Karma on 11/30/12.

This was served to me an opaque black with a dark oak tinge around the edges. Carbonation is sparse, but what's there is sand colored, fine, and hugs the glass. First thing I get from the nose is dark fruit: dates, raisins, and prunes. Sweet, but far from cloying. In descending order of strength, oak, vanilla, and dark chocolate. A little alcohol aroma as well, but it's gentle, doesn't curl the nose hairs. Milk and milk chocolate flavors yield to strong fresh cut oak and a hint of vanilla. This tastes too young right now. The alcohol burn is abrasive and lingers at the back of the throat. This starts really strong, but ends harsh. The feel is slightly watery and the finish is bone dry. This is great, just needs to be set down for a year or longer. Makes me want to buy a bottle.

look: Deep dark, nearly opaque brown. Some cola highlights barely peek around the edges when held to light. Fairly full mocha head on the pour that mostly recedes, but lingers around the rim.
smell: cocoa, vanilla, and subtle roasty char. Delicate oak and bourbon. Added all up a damn fine and decadent nose.
taste: All the flavors of the nose. Blooms into a rich full taste and the finish is a slightly spicy bitterness.
overall: A work of art.

In a tulip glass the beer was black in color with a medium-sized tan head. There was a smattering of lace.

Wonderful aroma. Both dark and sweet chocolate, coffee. A little vanilla. A lot of booze.

The taste personified the aroma. Sweet chocolate/cocoa, dark chocolate. Bitter coffee. Big booze.

This was a full-bodied beer meant to be sipped. The alcohol is right there, but in a complimentary way.

I loved this beer!
