500ml corked and caged bottle poured into a snifter, cooled in the fridge for about an hour before opening.

A- Pours black with a good two fingers worth of khaki head that slowly fades, leaving some froth along the sides. Lacing is also noted along the sides of the glass. Lots of head for a BA Stout.

S- Coffee, chocolate, roastiness, and booze on the smell. The bourbon is very apparent in the smell for me.

T- Roasty malts with notes of coffee up front. Then comes some chocolate before the bourbon settles in. Each sip leaves a nice alcohol warming sensation.

M- Heavy, alcohol-forward, roasty, a great sipping beer.

This is one of those beers that I would always see on the shelf sitting for awhile but passed for something else. I'm happy I grabbed one because it is a well-done BA Stout. Great sipper. I'm sitting here drinking it in the summer but this would be really nice to sip on in the cold weather months.

In a tulip glass the beer was black in color with a medium-sized tan head. There was a smattering of lace.

Wonderful aroma. Both dark and sweet chocolate, coffee. A little vanilla. A lot of booze.

The taste personified the aroma. Sweet chocolate/cocoa, dark chocolate. Bitter coffee. Big booze.

This was a full-bodied beer meant to be sipped. The alcohol is right there, but in a complimentary way.

I loved this beer!

Poured from a 500 ml corked bottle into a Surly Darkness chalice.

Appearance: Pours an oily pitch black with a moderate amount of bubbles. About two fingers of deep tan head that fade into a thin creamy layer. Leaves a lot of creamy lacing around the glass.

Smell: A big rich whiskey soaked dark malt aroma with lots of deep chocolate and fruit hints. Upfront barrel presence with big hints of bourbon whiskey, sweet vanilla, oak, and wood. Dark roasted barley malts with big hints of dark chocolate, coffee, burnt toast, biscuit, caramel, toffee, nuts, smoke, and yeast. Hints of molasses sweetness. Undertones of dark fruit with hints of dark cherry, plum, raisin, and fig. Very light on hops. Fairly boozy. A very good aroma.

Taste: As big and good as it smells, dark roasted malts with lots of dark chocolate notes and a big barrel presence. Lots of bourbon whiskey taste upfront along with notes of sweet vanilla, wood, and oak. Dark roasted barley malts with a big taste of dark chocolate, coffee beans, burnt toast, biscuit, smoked malt, caramel, toffee, nuts, and yeast. Sweet molasses and slight note of anise spice. Dark fruit undertones with some notes of black cherry, plum, fig, and raisin. Light presence of earthy hops. Very rich and fairly boozy. Very good taste.

Mouthfeel: Full bodied with a medium to high level of carbonation. very creamy, rich, silky, and somewhat syrupy. Some alcohol heat is felt as expected but its still fairly smooth.

Overall: Another great version of the barrel aged Raspy. Great bourbon barrel flavors blend in well with an already great dark roasty stout.
