M : Crisp, light, refreshing

D : Would be good on a hot summer day but I was hoping for a little more flavor.

I CAN't believe that I get to drink Hawaiian beer from a CAN! How cool is that? Welcome to the microcanning revolution, indeed!

My pour resulted in a finger's worth of creamy, bone-white head with good retention. Color was a beautiful lemon-yellow with NE-quality clarity. Nose had the characteristic lager-like sweetness to it. Mouthfeel was medium with a honey/wheat-y taste on the tongue. Finish had a lasting lager-like sweetness. Hey, I learned a year ago to appreciate lagers and this was a fine example. As a retired US Navy sailor, would I really have come ashore for it? You bet! We were forced to go weeks at a time without beer or even so much as a drop of grog.

Big thanks go out to atigerlife for the opportunity to try this beer.
Pours a cloudy yellow with a big white head. Smells of fruity pine, very nice. Head dissipates to a ring around the glass. Little lacing, but some. Yumm.. this is what canned beer should taste like! feels good in the mouth, kind of fizzy, smooth, light but flavorful. Yeasty, a little fruity (apricot?). Nice finish, kind of a dry sweet. I could drink some of this beer.

Big thanks to Hopdog for the can!
Pours cloudy yellow and opaque with a huge lasting head. Smell is yeasty, light malt, and lemon. Taste is smooth and creamy despite the appearance of high carbonation, almost wheaty with a hint of lemon. Musty, yet clean. Interesting and definitely different than the average pale lager.

I can imagine myself sucking these back while doing yard work in 100F heat. These micro brewed 'pilsner style' lagers always remind me of what Budweiser could be without the addition of all the cheaper sugar sources, such as corn and rice. This is refreshing and maintains an impressive head, even at temps in the low 40's.

My only knocks are that the carbonation, although contributing to the nice head, does make the mouthfeel a little harsh, and the overall price of 10.99 a sixer prohibits this as an everyday brew. Oh well, it does the job and is a nice change of pace.

Picked up a 6 can sampler in early June from Foodland in Kauai for $10.99.

Beer poured a straw yellow with a nice foamy white head. Nose was not much, hints of German hops in the background. Taste started with a mellow malted barley. The ending was quite a nice surprise, a blast of spicy German hops. Mouthfeel was light, no redeeming smoothness to be found. Overall drinkability was pretty good, it was refreshing, a great beer to have at the beach!

Enjoyed in a tall water glass
A: Moderate pour yields 4 fingers of white head with great retention from just a half can! Had to pour it in stages :-( Light straw yellow with the tiniest bit of haze. Can says "Live beer", could explain the haze. Minus points for haze and too much head.
S: Spicy hops and bready aroma. No off smells or metallic canny smell. Clean, sweet, almost caramelly, like kettle corn.
T: Bready with a good hop balance. Not hoppy but well balanced.
M: Perfect carbonation after it all made it into the glass. I love the lack of metallic taste. Full bodied, but so light and nice. A bit of lagery bad breath aftertaste.
D: Session beer all the way. Bring on a few more.

So happy the Maui Brewing Co's cans have made it to California. This past weekend a friend picked up some of all 3 available here for the Coachella weekend. I was very fond of all 3, but with the 100+ degree temperatures, this was the refreshing choice I kept returning for.

It's an straw color - looks very similar to an unfiltered style wheat beer like a hefe of a wit. The taste is very refeshing - some lemon with a nice lingery malt. I could drink this all day.

12oz can brought back to the lower 48 by my good friend and coworker Michelle E. I asked her to find me a Maui IPA and of course the Coconut Porter.. she hooked me up with the Bikini Blonde just for fun. The can has been sitting in the fridge for a week... tonight it was poured into my new favorite Sam Adams glass.

Huge head towers 3/4" out of the glass.. nice splotchy lacing.. brew is a hazy lite straw color.

Grainy aroma.. slight floral hops.. touches of musky notes.. clears out as it warms.

Flavor is soft grains and again only touches of floral hops.. maybe a little grassy. Mouthfeel is light as expected .. very drinkable.. something seems off if this is supposed to be a Helles.. there is a background fruitiness that probably shouldn't be here.

All and all... I can picture myself sitting on a beach... any beach .. enjoying this brew for hours. Drinkability is off the charts.. but it needs to be dialed in significantly if the brewery is truly shooting for a helles.

Michelle, if you end up reading this review... you need to remind me to give you a big hug tomorrow at work... Thanks from the bottom of my heart.

Poured from a 12oz can into a 20oz imperial pint. Thanks to Bernie and Linda for bringing this back from Hawaii!

A: Slightly hazy light straw color. A vigorous pour yields a small white head that recedes quickly and leaves virtually no lace. Very still. Only just a couple of lazy streams of bubbles climbing the sides of the glass.

S: Restrained citrus smelling hops and toasted malt mingle with an excellent, mildly tart, sour graininess. As it comes up to temp the hops take on a decidedly grassy aroma.

T: As noted above citrusy/grassy hops and toasted malt dominate the flavor. Very nice interplay between the citrus hops and toasted malt in the finish.

M: Creamy and dry/bitter but without a hint of lager "brightness". Feels much bigger than the abv would suggest.

D: This is an excellent lager. Satisfying and tasty and actually quite interesting to the palate. I wasn't expecting much and was pleasantly surprised.

Maui Brewing Co.'s Bikini Blonde Lager is a enjoyable beverage. It pours from the can a nice golden color. The head is frothy, white, and large. The smell is a mixture of citrus, grass, yeast, and malts, with none being overwhelming. The taste is nicely balanced between sweetness and bitter, neither one over-riding the other. The finish is dry and crisp. A very refreshing beer. Enjoy!

Pours a two finger frothy light clingy head over a cloudy pineapple yellow liquid. Smells musky noble hops over clean pils malt.

Tastes light malt sweet with lemony zing. Some musky hops, like tettnanger. Wet finish with some carbonation acrid placing a sour counterpoint. Nice hop flavor with a honey-like hallertauer. Clean of esters and no oxidation. Touch of papery. Light body and strong carbonation. Nice enjoyable beer.

Disclaimer:This review may or may not be slanted... in Maui Brewing Company's favor... I reviewed this while sitting in the sunshine on beautiful Hanalei Bay, Kauai, which had me in happy-beach-mode.

Appearance:Light blonde, not much head, quite lively.
Smell:like most lagers, though sweeter smelling, but perhaps it is the sea air.
Taste:Crisp start, malty middle, sweet finish. True to helles style, and much more flavorful than I expected. Soft lingering taste.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied.
Drinkability: One of my favorite lagers. I'm not much of a lager-lover, but I enjoy them on beach days. This was refreshing and not too bitter. Excellent find, Couz! Ono!

My parents brought this back from Hawaii, I showed my graditude by spilling about half the can on ground before drinking. Crying in my beer aside, what remains of the can pours a slightly hazy golden color with a thick foamy head, probably a little larger than it would be if it was a controled pour, but it lingers very nicely. The aroma is crisp and grainy with hints of sweetness. The beer is crisp and dry with more of the grainy flavor from the aroma. The flavor is light, but what is there is nice. This is definitely a training wheels beer for the brewery, but not bad considering.

I had this beer on tap at the brewery while I was on vacation there. As a disclaimer, I should mention that I'm not a huge fan of light beers. This beer was straw colored. It has a light hop aroma with not much else present. The hop flavor is pretty good, and is the strongest flavor without being too strong. It is light bodied and I would consider it to have medium drinkability.

Made by Maui Brewing Co. and served at this wondeful brewpub in Kahana [West Maui]. 16 IBU. Made iwth 100% malted barley.

The appearance is very light but with a creamy head. A light smell with no distinguishing characteristics.
Taste is rather weak. Somewhat watery. Has a slight hint of hops and a malt finish.
Mouthfeel is good which, combined with the light character and low ABV, make this a beer that is very drinkable. Overall, too weak and lacking character for me to want more.
