There's nothing particularly endearing about a restaurant in a strip mall in the most touristy part of Maui to begin with, and if the beer wasn't so good and if any other craft beer options existed, I'd recommend skipping this brewpub entirely.
The service here is abysmal. Our hostess was unfriendly and gave us attitude when we asked not to be seated in an area beside the kitchen. The place lacks any semblance of ambiance as it is--the last thing I want is to be seated in a corner, all but completely cut off from the rest of the restaurant.
Our waitress came, eventually, but forgot to bring her personality with her. She did the absolute bare minimum. And she committed what is for me the ultimate epic server fail: She didn't ask how everything was. That's waitressing 101. Asking people how they are enjoying their meals. It was clearly apparent the whole time that she just did not care.
What was worse was, after clearing our plates, she didn't bother to ask if we wanted anything else. Dessert? Coffee? Tea? Another beer? Nothing. Instead she just put the check in on the table and walked away. I only stayed for another beer after this because I really wanted to try the Belgian Black IPA or I might have just been inclined to pay and get the hell out of dodge. I'm not sure why she wanted to get rid of us so quickly; it's not like there was a line-up to get in. It was half full at best.
As for the ambiance, well, it's big and open and lifeless. There's zero warmth or charm. Just a big open area with a cement floor. There's some long tables in the middle and you can see in the kitchen. But really, this place didn't have much of a vibe at all. And the music was horrible. I didn't want to hear Supertramp in the '70s and I want to hear them even less now. There's also too many TVs, which I hate, because try though I might, I can't help but be distracted by them.
We went for a light dinner and I'm glad we didn't have huge appetites as what we did order wasn't great.
We split onion rings to start which were...you know. Onion rings. All greasy and oniony, just like an onion right ought to be. They were served with a chipotle remoulade that wasn't nearly chipotle-y or remoulade-y enough for me. It's been almost a week since I had it but in my memory it reminded me more of a ranch dressing.
We split the Veggie Pesto Pizza for our main. Basically think of a premade grocery store pizza crust topped with a rather astringent and spectacularly un-basily pesto, with canned artichokes, barely rehydrated sun-dried tomatoes, and garlic.
Lots of garlic.
So much garlic.
Like, all the garlic in Maui, at the same place, at the same time.
I love garlic but this was just way too much.
In short, it wasn't anything you couldn't make for yourself providing you added a fuckload of garlic. We were still tasting it the next day.
If I complained about the prices I'd have to complain about everywhere I ate in Maui. This is not a place for budget travellers. So I'll say the value was reasonable all things considered and leave it at that.
As for the beer, I really should have taken notes as I forget the names of these things or anything specific but, I started with the rauchbier (the name was something to do with a smokestack) which was nicely smokey and similar to Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier Märzen, really nicely done. I then had a stout which was good if forgettable. I finished with a Cascadian Belgian Black IPA. It was exactly what I imagined it would be. Nice and roasty with a good west coast hopping with some nice Belgian funkiness. Really neat.
My companion had a mango wheat beer which was pretty meh and frankly not much better than the Mana Wheat they sell in cans, which neither of us cared for either---the former is a pretty mediocre American wheat ale brewed with mango, the latter is pretty much the same, only with pineapple.
Overall there was a good and varied selection of about about a dozen or more beers on tap to please a lot of tastes, and I liked what I had enough to try more. But I reached a point where as a paying customer I didn't enjoy being neglected in such a crappy space, so we headed back to our hotel much earlier than anticipated.
If I ever go back to Maui, and I hope one day that I do, I'd plan to just hit this place for drinks and sidle on up to the bar where I'd be bound to get better service...but unless this place somehow becomes well managed between then and now, that seems doubtful.

Strip mall. Big, high ceilinged, concrete floor, empty-feeling type of place. The bar is big, and the surrounding tables can seat a good number of folks. But there's not a whole lot of personality within, and it seems like a garage with a few TVs devoted to sports and a few accolades dotting the walls.
Aesthetics aside, this is hands down the best beer spot on Maui. About 12 of their own brews on tap, from the canned Bikini Blonde, Big Swell IPA, and Coconut Porter (all good to very good for the porter), to a couple tourist friendly but decent fruited wheat beers (banana and mango), to some Belgian dabblings (Father Damien Dubbel and Golden Ale), to hoppy offerings of the Cascadian Belgian Black IPA and Double Overhead IIPA. With a wide variety of things along the way (ESB, California Common, rauchbier, amber, pale, etc.). All the beers I had were quite good, with a few standing out even further. They had SN Anniversary Helles Bock, Harvest Ale, and Lost Coast IPA on their guest taps. I stuck to the local stuff, so that should say something about the quality.
Their food was solid, as good pub grub as one will find in the proximity. My wife and I got the fish and chips (fried mahi-mahi) and local plate (kalua pork with rice) and were impressed. The second time, the pork was every bit as good, but her chicken salad was only so-so. Sevice was very good (but the same waitress had us both times...she was great but both nights were slow, so it's hard to get a wider feel for the staff thus the rating might be skewed here).
Price-wise, it's as good as you're gonna get in the middle of the Pacific. The fish and chips and kalua pork were both $12 (a veritable steal here). The pizzas were all north of $20. And I didn't try them, even once I became accustomed to food sticker-shock on the island.
Maui isn't a beer mecca, but I'd come here even if it wasn't in paradise. In fact, I'd be proud to call this my local spot. The decor could use some sprucing up, though.

Went here twice on our trip to Maui at the beginning of August.
It's in a strip-mall type place, but a nice one. Inside it's quite high-ceilinged, cool, with lots of tables and a few booths, and a large rectangular bar with seating all around near the back. Large chalkboard with their draught selections... I'd say they had a good 12 of their own beers on tap, and 3-4 guest taps (SN Harvest, Chimay White were two I remember). I had a few excellent beers and a couple of good ones.
Now, service was spotty, at least in terms of two visits. First time there, the girl who waited on us was awesome... very friendly, knowledgeable about beer, no screw ups. Second time, another girl waited on us and didn't know too much about their beers, and remembered after our check came that my AHA card would get us free calamari and fries. Asked if we wanted them now... uh, no, we're leaving, maybe you could waive one of our drink charges. But no.
Still a pretty nice spot, and great beers. The food we DID try was actually very good. I'd head back... but when will I get to go to Maui again???

Don't be turned off by the location in a little strip mall north of Kaanapali. I stopped in with my new wife for a couple of beers and a snack. The updated inside has that urban/industrial/warehouse look that belies the pub's location. Service was friendly, but when isn't it on the islands?
I was impressed with the selection. Beyond the ubiquitous Coconut Porter and lighter beers for the tourists, they probably had about 15 beers on tap, including a stout and a tasty double IPA. You can get samplers of various sizes, depending on how many beers you want to try. In addition to their own stuff, there were three guest taps: Chimay, SN Harvest and SN 30th Anniv Helles Bock.
The nachos were very good and way too big for the two of us to finish. There are plenty of tables but we sat at the bar, which allowed us to keep our glasses cold on the frosty sheet of ice around the bar. There are numerous TVs, which is unusual for places in Maui. Definitely stop by if you're north of Lahaina.

Hawaii isn't really a craft beer haven and Maui Brewing is one of the few choices. They have some good beers but I won't be rating their beers here or discussing them because its a review on the brewpub.
They have an interesting ice boarder around the bar that they set your beer on when served. The beer was served at a good temperature not too cold but didn't like it staying on the ice.
There were two bartenders one male and one female. They guy got my first beer promptly and seemed to be working hard. The girl walked by when I was finishing and asked if I'd like something else so I asked her for a beer, then when her friends came in she got destracted and forgot about me. About 5 minutes later the guy came back and I had to order my other beer from him.
I didn't eat but I will say the food looked and smelled very good.
I also noticed that they had a beer they brewed named "Santa's Little Helper" and described it as Christmas in July. Port has been brewing a beer named that for a long time and it seems shady to name a beer the same.
There were about 10 beers on tap by Maui and 2 guest beers one being sierra nevada and I forget the other.

Big thanks to my wife, who spotted this gem in the back corner of a nondescript shopping center as we explored Maui. Walking in the door, I notice that it has a somewhat typical urban warehouse style, with high unfinished ceilings and big glass walls in front of a line of brew kettles. My opinion turns when I see the large chalkboard in the back listing the dozen options produced by the brewery that are available on draft, ranging from the expected (lager and pale ale) to the interesting (rauchbier and "Christmas in July"). Because this was just a quick stopover on our trip, I just ordered a sampler of their four most popular styles (the lager, IPA, California Common, and the CoCoNut porter) and was satisfied with all of them. The food was good and featured interesting takes on a variety of typical bar food, from the variety of sliders to the "Adult" grilled cheese that included fried salami. Overall, it was a satisfying experience that made me want to seek out Maui's beers for the rest of my trip to the islands.

Made 5 visits during my week in Maui. Great selection of beers with style information is posted on the wall in this industrial-like interior place. Outside is a bland looking strip mall that doesn't cohere with the interior too well.
Sports-bar feel is obvious with the numerous TV's and occasionally boisterous & obnoxious fans who have had too many pints. Seems to have a more "locals only" feel than what I found at other restaurants given how I observed the bartenders treat the seemingly obvious locals vs. people like me with touristy clothing and a camera around my neck. Music was unbearably loud in the happy hour afternoon hours and evenings. There was a notable blue collar feel to the customer base that was here, even though it is in a nice area.
Service ranged all over the place from atrocious to above average, and on one occasion we had to re-seat ourselves nearly twice because nobody would notice that we were seated in their section(s). And one of these occasions was at the bar, and the bartender was too interested in her conversation with a friend-customer even though I'm *certain* she saw us sit down.
Food was very good and reasonable priced compared to the other options in the Kaanapali area. Fried Brie appetizer was rich and excellent with the little dipping sauce, pizza was above average, onion rings were unique, and even the veggie burger was good with smoked gouda and pesto sauce - so flavorful!
The beer selection and food make this place worthwhile, but I recommend trying to go early in the day before it is noisy, and try to sit at the bar where (normally) you're likely to be served quickly.

A little out of the way - well north of the familiar old town of Lahaina in a nondescript, difficult to see shopping center, but worth the trip if only because this is the only brewpub on the island. The room is large and cavernous, though not inhospitable, with a large dining room, decorated with banners for the cheekily-named brews - and a more intimate bar area. We found the staff hip and enthusiastic about beer - they seemed starved to talk to people who knew about good beer and were curious about it, which doesn't seem like a surprise given the still-evolving state of Hawaii's beer culture. The waiter came over to talk beer and called over the bartender too when it became obvious we were interested. The food was decent - standard bar food with the usual sort of Hawaii twist (think a lot of good pulled pork sort of stuff). The beer was decent, though not mind blowing (but consider that all of these ingredients have to be hauled at great cost and effort from the mainland and it seems better). The Big Swell IPA is good and the cocoanut porter is worth a try if you can find it on tap.

Stopped in while on my honeymoon. I had already tried the regular lineup (Big Swell IPA, Coconut Porter, and Bikini Blonde) at other restaurants on Maui, and I thought they were all very well crafted. I was really excited to try their pub only beers.
I started off with a Maui Coffee Stout (5.0% ABV, 24 IBU). It was easy drinking and not overwhelming with the coffee. Next, I moved on to a black IPA that they call Black Powder IPA (7.2%, 80 IBU). This was fantastic! I have tried Stone Sublimely Self-Righteous Ale in the past and I think that Black Powder holds its own in comparison. It has tons of malt aroma and flavor. I would highly recommend it.
They have approximately 12 to 15 of their own beers on tap and 3 guest beers (when I was there, they were Sierra Nevada Harvest Ale, Bear Republic Racer 5, and Oskar Blues Old Chub).
The food was so-so. I had the fish and chips, with a very large portion of beer battered mahi-mahi that was really, really good. The fries were not that good. My wife got a "large" salad and calamari to put on top of it. The salad was pretty small for the price ($10) and the calamari was some of the worst I've ever had. The rings were tiny and there was only a small portion of tentacles. The coating that was on them had a very unusual taste to it and was really thin.

I had no idea what to expect from this place. The location used to house a restaurant that locals told me was awful. I arrived for the first time at noon on a Sunday. The place was, as expected, not crowded. It was sparkling clean. The bar is a large oval with an ice rail that keeps drinks cold while you drink them. This is kind of odd for a brewpub, but is good for water, wine, and mixed drinks.
There were 12 Maui brews on tap and three guest taps. There was a nice assortment of beer from a light summer lager to smoked rye IPA. Most of the beers were on the light side, which isn't bad given the climate, but the Old Chinwig Strong Ale and Red Cock Dopplebock were lusty. The guest taps included Pizza Port Big Wednesday Belgian IPA. The other two were from a Colorado brewer I was unfamiliar with and one more.
The food was equal to the beer or surpassed it. The Maui onion soup was great. The steamers were some of the best I've eaten. My wife loved the salads and the slider. I devoured the bratwurst, which was better than I thought possible on Maui.
We loved the place enough to go back a couple days later. The only thing that changed was the daily special, the bartender, and a few different brews. The place delivered again.
Given the state of beer selection on Maui, this place is a must stop.
