22oz bottle, cap pryed off into my favourite wide flute. Body is a gorgeous if slightly foggy deep copper, going yellow around the edges. Head is thin and ivory, leaving a surprisingly nice lace.

Smell is big, fat, and rich. Could have fooled me for a barleywine of twice the malt bill and a year of age. Sweet caramel and blood orange zest bright pine needles, maybe a touch of thyme. Can't get enough of that candied-fruit malt.

Taste is a little bit of a disappointment. The all the sweetness fades away in an instant, ending up quite dry and a touch bitter. Unsweet iced tea. Tiny, tiny bit of chile. Dark german bread. Good, honest hop bitterness, all fruity in nature. Maybe a little bit of cedar smoke at the very, very end.

Feels really quite odd on the tongue. Slippery and sticky on the lips, but powdery and drying on the throat after the sip. Only that gorgeous nose is enough to keep you going for more.

Poured from the 22oz bottle into a pint glass. Body is a rather cloudy reddish brown color, topped by a small amount of slightly creamy head. Aroma of sweet, bready caaramel malt and a mild fruity note from the hops.
Palate is big on caramel malt, with big notes of bread and mild dark fruit. A touch of hoppy bitterness comes through before the swallow, leading to a well-balanced finish. Body is creamy and smooth, and is probably the nicest thing about this beer. This isn't particularlly subtle, and there's quite a bit of yeast at the bottom of the bottle that requires a careful pour. Not the best option on a crowded beer shelf.

1 Pint, 6ozs brown bottle with a very cool label ... it's two rainbows coming out of a pot of gold!

Appearance: Hazy, unfiltered, dark orange/copper beer with a patchy cream off-white foam head that clings to the sides of the glass...nice lacing :~)

Smell: Very pronounced citric hop aromas, spicy with background sweet malts and a faint bready grain aroma.

Taste: Hmmmm...The 'A' and the 'S' don't match the 'T' for this beer... There is some good hoppy moments, but the sour ending notes kill this one!

Mouthfeel is fair, not much carbination, creamy with a malty/medium-body. The initial taste is a nice malt/hop combo on the palateA spicy, stinging and salty plethora of citric nuances come throught...Unfortunately a sour 'back-drop' takes over for the remainder...

Notes: This is an OK beer...I liked the name and label better than the beer itself...so that's never a good sign :~(

A bold wiff of hops as you open the bottle mellowing to a pleasantly mild aroma, bold flavor balancing hops with earthy malts. A very pleasant drink. I applaud Iron horse's unwillingness to be forced into tightly defined types and definitions and stretching the boundaries of flavor and style in the micro brewing community! cheers.

Clean citrusy aroma. Some light vegetation scents too. Very pleasant and inviting. Deep ruby bronze color, completely opague. Off white head leaving splotches. Citrus fruit, hops and spices up front. Lightly sweet though has a dry finish. Almost a bit tangy. Decent feel and nice body. Has some interesting flavors to it, I like this.

I go to Ellensburg often to sample the brews on tap at the Iron Horse brewery. Its always a treat when this one is on tap

Looks like a plum colored sparkling brew with an off white head which dissipated half way through the drink.

Smells like fresh pine forest, with a hint of tropical something.

Tastes like a caramel peach dipped in grapefruit juice, slight hints of grassy bitterness, not overpowering.

Mouthfeel was acceptable, as it was on tap, much fuller as I have tasted in the bottle.

Overall, this beer is more of a strong ale than anything else, and is a great stepping stone to those longing to appreciate the awesomeness of beers like Arrogant Bastard. I will be cloning this one soon! My friends and I all agree, this is the best beer on tap at the Iron Horse, and one of our all time favorites.

Cloudy reddish amber in appearance. Very nice foam that lasts well and adds some nice swirls in the glass. There is a little sweet malt with a tang of cider. The sudsy mouthfeel is the best quality. Some citrus in the nose.

The flavors are as murky as the way it looks. Leafy, muddy, and moderately bitter at first. Somebody called it a "red IPA," which is as good a description as any. A little orange and grapefruit peel from the hops. There is a mineral flavor that seems to come up with each sip. Oddly hot after some sipping, and then overly bitter. This isn't as unpleasant as lots of other dank and herbaceous brews, but I can't see the point of this. From the 22 oz bottle bought at Skagit Valley Food Coop in Mount Vernon.

Poured from 22oz bomber into a pint glass.

Appearance: extremely murky amber hue with one thick finger of frothy tan foam. Not too bad.

Smell: mild, bready malt character with a dash of citrusy and earthy hops. Cascade, maybe? It's not too bad.

Taste: bready malt flavor with a hit of citrusy hops. This morphs into a more yeasty character and the hops subside into a more earthy blend. Bitterness is relatively low. There's a bit of an acidic sourness, unfortunately, which mars the flavor a bit; other than that, though, this is an amber I actually quite like.

Mouthfeel: medium body with a good level of carbonation. There's something in here that lends a nice, smooth creaminess which I quite like.

Overall: contrary to a the other reviews for this beer, I rather like it. Perhaps I just have bizarre taste when it comes to ambers. The sourness in the flavor isn't quite right, but it's not *that* off-putting.

I am a little bit confused about the harsh reviews for this beer. I like the fact that they don't define what type of beer it is. It's an ale obviously. A hoppy ale with a light brown and slightly red tinge. There that's all you need to know. In addition I would say that it has a great malt presence with slightly toasty, toffee tones. If I had to guess I would say there is some Simcoe hops in there. Hops were earthy, resinous and very prominent. Good overall taste and smell

A: pours a reddish brown color, decent sized head good lacing
S: smells slightly caramelly with earthy hops...also seems to smell of diacytel.
T: slight caramel butter flavor followed by big earthy piney hop flavor
M: medium bodied beer carbonation seems fine
D: I was expecting more out of this one...buttery flavor in an ipa wasn't what I wanted...also way too harsh with the bitterness.
