Ahh, The Black Tulip. This is a new beer bar that is attached to Bacchus Fine Wine & Spirits in Midway. It's in a brand new building, and is owned by the same person as Bacchus. The inside has vibrant red walls adorned with painting of famous race horses and other racing memorabilia. There's a few TVs showing sports, and the bar has plenty of peanuts and pistachios to satisfy. There are several tables if you don't want to sit at the bar, and each have a vase of fresh cut flowers at them, a nice touch. There's even a few tables outside on the patio, which is surrounded by a beautiful stone wall. Anyway, on to the beer. They have 12 taps, which included (while I was there) Heinekin, Kostritzer Schwartzbier, Guinness, Bass, Harp, Bitburger, Fullers ESB, Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale, Hoegaarden, Sam Adams, and a few others. They have a bottle selection of about 20 or so, but if there's something you like from the liquor store that joins it next door, you can have that at the bar too! The owner was nice enough to let us have our homebrew club meeting here, and it turned out really nice. They plan to have food within the next month or so, so look out! This is a really nice place to have a brew in Midway.

I've visited this bar 5 or 6 times now and have enjoyed every time. In the middle of Horse Country, Midway is a quaint and historic town without much of a draw in terms of beer, until now. The Black Tulip is a quiet but quality bar. Their beer selection won't knock your socks off, but you will find about 8 or so taps featuring Fullers, Seirra Nevada, Spaten, and Great Lakes products. The decor is very nice and clean--a little urban chic, but a nice element in this quiet town. The food seems good--I haven't eaten there yet. They have a terrific patio that overlooks Main Street. The locals are quick to greet and meet. The help is extremely nice and eager to assist. If you are ever in Midway KY, then stop on in.

Had a homebrew meeting here recently. I really didn't expect much from Midway, but it surprised me. They had a lot of good stuff on tap such as Holy Grail Ale, Kostritzer, Fullers, Hoegaardrn, etc - and no macros on about 15 taps. Very nice. The owner was a very nice guy, he also owns the liquor store next door. We sat outside on the patio and it was great. They are currently burying the electric/phone/cable lines in Midway, so the street was all torn up, but it will be very nice in the historic setting as soon as they are finished. The owner also said that they will be opening a kitchen in about a month. I can't wait!

Had a brewclub meeting here last night. I have to say I was very apprehensive going into this. How good could something in Midway, Kentucky be? I'll let you know, very good. This establishment was running about 15 taps, no macros. As far as I have heard, you can also go next door and grab beer from Bacchus to drink at the Tulip. The service was almost too good. I was using my pint glass from my purchase at the bar to sample my homebrew. The server took my glass as it was empty, so I had to go and ask for a new glass to use. This place is definately a gem in this small town.
