This is the first time I've ever been in a Whole Foods, so I can't comment too much about the store, other than how ridiculously expensive everything is. Why I can get California produce at a lower price in Toronto than in California is beyond me.
The beer selection seems very solid, but did not turn up anything too unexpected. Its mostly geared to local Cali breweries, which it covers very well. My purchases included Kona Pipeline Porter, Speakeasy Double Daddy, Anderson Valley Hoppin Ottin, and Bear Republic Big Black Bear amongst others. A big plus was being able to take beers out of any sixer for individual purchase. The prices seemed to be very reasonable, with most standard size bottles coming in at $2.
The kid at the checkout and the bagger were both taking about how much they liked Racer 5. Again, this is not something you see in Canada.

This whole foods location pales in comparison to the selection at the fourth street store, but nevertheless the selection is always very fresh and it rotates quite frequently as well. I've never talked to the beer guy here, but they do keep many fan favorites in stock and the service here seems more personal than at the 4th street superstore. Prices are quite high but that is to be expected in this part of town...and the wine selection is lacking in my opinion as well, still this is still a great supermarket with an above average beer selection...

Your standard Whole Foods selection. In the city it's definitely not a destination since the specialty stores are much better, but if you're shopping for groceries it has an excellent selection for a grocery store. It's almost 100% local craft beer and imports. Off the top of my head: everything from Bear Republic and Anchor, plus several selections from Ommegang, Allagash, Alaskan, Stone, Marin, Moylands, Speakeasy, plus several good Belgian and other inport selections. Nothing that will blow you away but an excellent selection for a grocery store. Another positive is that 100% of their stuff is in a cooler. Keep in mind that this is Whole Foods: everything is expensive, including the beer.

like most whole foods, their beer selection is decent. nothing out of control but if you are already shopping for groceries, you can also find a good selection here of west coast brews, national specialty beers (ommegang, alagash, etc) as well as some items from belgium, germany and great britain. cool things like Aecht Schlenkera pop up, which you can't really find anywhere other than plumpjacks. i also like that almost all of the beer is kept refrigerated, so you can hope that it has been well treated.
Of course, you generally pay a premium for beer at whole foods. i haven't interacted with service people so i can't really say. i know the whole foods in evanston, illinois had a great beer buyer, so i assume someone is generally knowledgiable at whole foods stores. In any event, it's another pretty good place to shop in the city. bigger and better selection that trader joes, but pricier too. not as much beer as bevmo, but maybe a few things you couldn't find elsewhere, plus food shopping as well.
