The quality of the products at Beer @ Home are reasonable. The yeasts are sometimes a month or two out of date, the hops are of an average quality. The grains and the grinder are two nice highlights, with plenty of grains to choose from and a nice grinder to take care of them.

The special herbs/adjuncts are lacking. Orange peel and candi sugar are the only ones I recall seeing.

The owners are a bit standoffish. They are knowledgable but they almost act as if customers were a little tiresome to deal with... I just get a bad vibe about customer service.

Despite some black marks, I'm going to recommend the place. It has what you need to start brewing and the prices are good.

Of course I am going to give this place a perfect score, I am the owner of Beer at Home. And Yes, the first thing I did 3 years ago was replace both of the grain mills. I agree the place was a bit pricey 3 years ago, but I have not raised prices since taking over the store. Feel free to stop in and look around, I think you will be impressed. It is a little hard to find, But I feel it is worth it. we are open Tues thru Fri 10 am to 6 Pm, Sat 10 am to 5 pm and Sun 12 noon to 5 pm. Closed on Mondays. Stop by or call, we only want you to make good beer and wine.

This is where my first homebrew kit came from. My girlfriend bought the kit as a gift and while I wasn't there for the conversation that took place it's easy to see she was steered in the correct direction as the kit was more than sufficient to begin but didn't include unnecessary items that jack up the price tag a little bit. Staff has been friendly and knowledgeable and while I had some issues with some of the products I bought there (a leaky bottling bucket) they quickly and satisfactorily resolved the issue. Selection is good as they carry all the homebrew stuff you would want and stock is good as well. Two grain mills, one of which works great while the other has clearly seen better days (perhaps this is the dangerous mill referenced in previous reviews).

I didn't lose a finger thanks! Location is a bit tricky first time I went. Only a block off of busy 120th Street, it is hidden among similar white industrial buildings tucked right in the middle. The best way to get there is turn on the street after CB&Potts, go a block and turn west. Go a half block and turn into the parking lot.

Ok, once inside there is a decent size shop up front with a good sized yeast & hop fridge some random equipment around and wine stuff tucked away in one corner. A decent malt selection in the back area, what I could call is the warehouse area. Kind of tucked in there, there are big bines for the bigger base malts and on the opposite wall the fun malts. A decent selection, although when I went they didn't have two of my specialty malts.

The staff is friendly enough. I didn't really get to talk to them as there were a few people in and I didn't really have a lot of questions. Overall a good store, a touch pricy but a good option if it's close by.

***The grain mill at this store is dangerous and poses a bodily threat*** I am not joking...someone is going to lose some fingers to this machine.

This used to be my local homebrew shop, with some hesitation. Prices are a bit high and the tax rate in the town is really high so the register total always left me grumbling a bit. Great selection of grains, extracts, and huge selection of yeasts (usually fresh, too). Hop selection can be hit or miss, but they've done well here in the middle of the hop shortage of 2008. Service is friendly, but not always dependable. I've received recommendations for hop substitutions that I know were way off.

The reason I've stopped using this store is that the grain mill situation has been poor for years and has recently become dangerous. The mill does not crush as fine as I like and they freak out when I ask to adjust the spacing of the rollers. I wind up having to run my grain through the mill twice. Most importantly, the rollers will often stop spinning and the customer is instructed to reach underneath and, using fingers, help the rollers get started again. Sounds to me like a great way to lose a few fingers. When this happens, the place should be sued and rightfully shut down. Stupid. I suggest asking the employees to baby the mill while it works on your grain. Perhaps they will get the point if the employees are spending the whole damned day 'fingering' the grain mill for the customers.

Beer at Home has become one of my favorite places to purchase homebrew supplies. They have a pretty good selection of malts and grains, both bulk and pre-packaged. White Labs seems to be the only yeast that they carry with any variety. They stock most of the brewing gizmos you could ever want. I find most of their staff to be pretty helpful but the prices do seem a lit high. Being that it is the only brew shop in north Denver I find myself in there quite often.

This summer I attended one of their “brew in” events. You bring your equipment and they cut you a break on the ingredients, and you brew a batch. I found it to be pretty fun and a great opportunity to talk with some real experienced brewers. I was also neat to try some of the other people’s brews. If you get a chance you have to check one of these events out.
