Poured into a Gulden Draak goblet.

Pours a deep ruby red with a wonderful pink frothy head, minimal carbonation. The foam possesses a firm and lasting retention and some fine sticky lacing on the glass.

The aroma is pronounced. Sweet cherry and marzipan.

Tasting there is no sourness, predominant flavour is juicy cherry, no indication that this is ersatz, indeed it's similar to a punnet of Bing blitzed in the processor, plenty of almond notes, hints of sugar but its not that sweet. Difficult to catch any malt structure within the sweetness. On the finish, something bitter and a little metallic, but very pleasant.

Very smooth and pleasing texture with a gentle spritz of carbonation.

Overall this is unashamedly a fruit beer thats proud of its fruit, whilst it might get a little cloying for a whole session, for a couple of glasses in the sun its wonderful.

This is an interesting fruit beer, but very different from a lambic or a syrupy flavored beer. The beer is a beautiful red and smells/tastes of cherry juice. The beer is sweet but not overly suite. The one down side is that the beer could use a little carbonation.

From the 550 ml. embossed bottle. Sampled on May 15, 2014.

It poured a slight cloudy reddish-amber with a decent beige head that fades after a few moments. It has a nice beer appearance.

Tart cherries and cherry juice are the most abundant scent on the nose but at the same time I do clearly pick up a little yeast and malt in the background.

The mouthfeel is in the medium range but it is heavier than I expected it to be. Smooth too.

Cherry fruit flavors with a tart finale. Cherries are one of my favorite fruits so unlike some fruit beers I have a higher tolerance for cherry beers. It was a welcome beverage on a warm night like tonight.

Picked this one up because Samuel Smith seems to be my favorite brewery and I also tend to like fruit beers, and I had not tried this one yet. Plus, it was priced at $3.44 for 550, perfect. Great looking beer with the dark color and an interesting pinkish head, result of the cherry I am sure. Smells more cherry than beer, which isn't all bad. Taste is similar to the smell, more of a cherry juice than beer, but absolutely delicious. Absolutely perfect with salsa and chips. I really like this a lot and at that price I am going to swing by and grab a few more to keep in the fridge for hot days when I want a beer, and sweet. It will be an alternative to their organic chocolate as desert beer. Plus, at that cost it is a great value. If you like fruit beer you will love this, if not, then still worth a try I would think.
