Although I was expecting more of a Lambic-style brew, overall this was very (very!) good. The taste was pleasantly of sweet ripe cherry with a touch of sour cherry. The beer is a red-hued frothy smooth concoction unlike most other fruit beers on the market today. Samuel Smith is known for it's more innovative and creative brews, especially when it comes to furit infusions. I served this in a thin crystal snifter of which I threw a cherry in the bottom for good measure. The aroma is very sweet and like fresh ripe picked cherries. Definitely a unique and special easy sipper - very nice for late summer or early fall.

KRIEK WEEK CONTINUES!!!
It may be from the UK but a cherry beer is a kriek to me! Is this beer organic? LOL!
Appearance 4.0: Poured out a deep pinkish red. Opaque and cloudy with small particulate matter. Good sized head (1/2") and decent lacing.
Smell 4.0: Very nice nose on this beer with a predominate cherry tartness, under which floats the taste of cherry pits, yeast, malt and a compelling honey scent.
Taste 3.75: The taste really grew on me and this score reflects that. Front is sharp and tart with a strange mellowness. Middle is smooth, malty and features a big wave of cherry flavor. Finish features more cherry, with hints of cherry stones (pits) and a nice hop bite, way back in the palate. Aftertaste was long and focused on a deep, intense cherry taste that was very pleasant.
Mouthfeel 3.75: Right on the nose for this style and the tastes they are trying to accentuate.
Overall 3.75: This beer is right up there with the best of the lambics. However, there is a little *something* missing in the flavor profile. Regardless, this is a refreshing, surprising and utterly enjoyable beer. Great for a change of pace in your next session.
