Bought it for my girlfriend, as the other Samuel Smith's beer we had, the strawberry one. Poured to a common mug.

A - 2 fingers of thick white foam that slowly dissipates leaving almost no trace at all. The beer is a beautiful pink reddish color and a bit hazy.

S - Raspberry, raspberry and more raspberry, with just the slightest hint of malt and alcohol.

T - Just raspberries all around. An interesting, exotic and tasty flavor. The aftertaste is of sweet malt (caramel, perhaps?) and the alcohol is very well hidden.

M - Very carbonated. Like the other beer I had, the strawberry one, is like tasting a soda with a little bit of alcohol, but this beer had a better taste and was tastier. Crisp and smooth, nevertheless.

Overall a good beer that I would gladly have again. My girlfriend gives it an 8/10. I think this beer would be great for a good dessert or to enjoy on a sunny day in a picnic or relaxing on the patio.

550 ml bottle poured into a Pint glass

A: Pours a brownish red, with a big pink colored head, about 2 fingers worth that settles to a thin layer with very nice looking lacing.

S: OK, it smells like of fresh raspberries and grapes.. This does not smell like beer but it is interesting and delicious smelling.

T: OK, here is where it goes a little bad... First sip has the unpleasant taste of cough syrup. Mid palette has a little sweet malt mixed in. As it warms the cough syrup settles down and improves. Aftertaste leaves a little on the sweet but tart side.

M: Medium body with a lively carbonation.

D: Really sweet & tart just like a good raspberry... but you have to be patient because the overwhelming cough syrup taste is bad... Hang in there...

I enjoyed this beer very much. The raspberry works well with the malt/chocolate flavors. It is as if I drank a liquified raspberry truffle. Seems like a dessert beer to be enjoyed on special occasions.

I like the fact that it is organic too. I'll have a few bottles on hand this holiday.

Appearance: Solid head as it began with two fingers on the pour and managed to sustain one finger for some time that helped produced some good lacing as well. The body is a murky deep raspberry red, although possesses enough clarity to see this isn't going to be fruit juice with alcohol in it.

Smell: Overwhelming raspberry smell with a malt background. Didn't need any warming to come out, but it helped it's case even more. The only reason it didn't get the perfect score was a bit more beer elements would have been nice and possibly some innovation, but I get the feeling I may never find that in a well done fruit beer.

Taste: Mmm..raspberry and it's clear it's real raspberry and not laden with chemicals. The malt makes an initial appearance with the raspberry and then takes a back seat as the berries build and built to a barely excessive sour note before going down. I think what really impresses me is that it does a really good job of masking the bitter fermented fruit juice oddness with sweeter malt.

Mouthfeel: Like I said, the beer gets a little bit too sour at the end for my liking and that seems to permeate the aftertaste as a result. Still the carbonation is well done and it's smooth with a nice build up. Still the sour note clings for a bit too long.

Drinkability: It's good, but I ask myself when I would drink this apart from desiring a novelty. I hate to say it, there's almost too much flavour to drink this consistently and I can't really think of a food pairing for it. Maybe spicy thai or seafood? Anyways, it's light on the stomach but the sweet and sour of the beer wears on you near the end.

Final Thoughts: Pretty much an all around good fruit beer. It's flavourful and honestly brings forward the raspberries without abandoning the fact it is a beer. I'll say this though, if they swapped raspberries out for cherries this beer would be unbearably sour. Certainly worth at least one buy.

Pours a murky dark red with a 3 inch foamy reddish white head that settles to a small cap. Small splotches of lace line the glass on the drink down. Smell is of rasberry jam, raspberry juice, fresh raspberries, and maybe a hint of malt. Taste is very much the same with an emphasis on very authentic raspberry flavors without being all that sweet. This beer has a nice carbonation level with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good fruit ale that showcases very nice authentic raspberry smells and flavors.
