22 oz. bottle/ no freshness date

P: The Taddy Porter sits a deep brown with mahogany highlights in the glass. The dark khaki-colored head is kind of creamy and fluffy with good retention.

A: Smells of huge roasted malt, dark fruit, some toffee, caramel, and earth. Lacks some serious power in this department, though.

T: That huge-smelling malt bill is transferred to the palate with a dominant roasted barley flavor. Nice mix of dark fruits and caramel mingle with cocoa and coffee to construct a full-flavored experience. Also some earthy hops underneath to round it out.

M: Medium-bodied with a rather light but smooth and creamy texture that works well.

Notes: I've enjoyed this one for quite awhile, but this is the first time reviewing it. And well, it's not hard to tell why this is considered a classic. I love the way that huge roasted barley taste mixes with the rest of the flavors in this one. Quite tasty, but can't quite keep pace with some of the better porters out there nowadays.

Pours black as night with 3 fingers of tan head.

Smell is cocoa powder, faint spicy hops, and a little smoke.

Sweet cocoa/coffee taste up front, with a nice crisp hop finish. Very tasty.

Mouthfeel is good, and at 5% alcohol, the drinkability is good for a rather rich beer.

Very enjoyable. Will come back to this one.

18.7 oz bottle into imperial pint glass:

A: Black opaque body with slight ruby highlights, and the great creamy light coffee head with excellent lacing, and permanent hold.

S: Smokey with some dark chocolate, coffee, dark fruit, and caramel

T: The dark fruit takes on a more predominant role, overshadowing the coffee, but the chocolate remains, which is now a bit milkier, while smoke lingers on the finish.

M: Exceptionally creamy and smooth, with a tiny bit of carbonation, with the twang of dark fruit on the finish giving it a bit of a bite

D: Not my style, but as with all Sam Smith brews, it's of the best I've had of the style. It's surprisingly big for 5%, but an easy session beer.

Pours a dark brown almost black. Head is tan with uneven bubbles.

Nose is fruity and quite memorable. I think I was most impressed with the aroma of this beer.

Taste is of slightly roasted malts, fruity, very fruity, then the ever so mild British hops come in, and the finish is once again sweet and astringent. Not a bad thing, but the aftertaste is somewhat "off."

Good consistency for a porter, medium bodied. Often porters are too watery, but this was just right.

Quite drinkable, but the astringency and fruitiness could get annoying.

Very dark, black almost, with a great beige head and plenty of lace.

Smells sweet like chocolate and pudding, roasted too with a slight sharp accent. A fruity/sour, apple- or wine-like note freshes up the nose.

The taste starts of a bit sour and refreshing and moves towards a big roasty phase and a fantastic bitter-sweet finish. Subtle fruity notes sparkle up this more 'serious' side of the brew.

Body is about medium and a mouthfeel that is fairly smooth, but also going towards thin or watery -- perfectly satisfying anyway you put it. Carbonation is strong and stingy.
