550ml bottle poured into a 16oz tumbler

A: Deep, deep ruby red that starts with a one-finger head that settles to a nice thin cap.

S: Dark fruit (raisins and figs) and an almost metallic quality. A touch of bubble gum.

T: Starts slow....a bit shy. Doesn’t really “bring it” right away. The metallic property and the raisin/fig from the nose is noticeable early. Most of the American-style porter flavors that I'm accustomed to appear in the finish. A modicum of roast and hop bitterness at the end.

M: My god...supremely drinkable. I finished half the bottle without any thought. You can tell that the unique properties of the water are a huge portion of what this beer is all about. Funny that the back of the bottle emphasized the addition of whole hops, because they take a backseat to the water and malt.

O: I’ve never had the pleasure of “grabbing a quick pint” at a pub in the UK, but I can imagine that this must be a fairly respectable representation. A real treat.

Poured into a pint glass. Reviewed alongside Fuller's London Porter.

A: Dark red-brown with two-finger, off-white, creamy head that lasted a couple of minutes. Pretty good lacing.

S: Dark fruit and spice. Roasted aromas like coffee.

T: Moderate sweetness and light bitterness. Caramel malt and toast. Mild fruit flavors.

M: Medium bodied with soft carbonation.Smooth.

O: This was the more fruity of the two porters. Both are excellent, but I liked Fuller's just a bit more.

Bottle poured in a tulip. Fresh bottle, I assume.

Thin (finger) head, dark, nice lacing. Solid head/carbonation retention around the glass edge the entire time.

Smells like a porter, with a bit of coffee. The taste is wonderful. What got me is the metallic zing that really makes my mouth water and pucker. I'm a sour nut, and while this isn't sour at all, that metallic-ness brings out that similar mouth watering sensation that sours have. Real nice.

A standard pour got me a finger and a half of light mocha colored head, which was very fizzy and active. This took a couple minutes to die down over the almost black body. A bit of lacing noticed. Nice looking beer.

Roasted malt is a delicious smelling beast in this! Coffee and chocolate both come in to top it off, and boy does this smell good.

Again, roasted malt in this bad boy is good. This is partnered up with coffee and a hint of dark fruit which imparts an almost sour note in the middle. Ending is nice dark chocolate.

Medium bodied, the medium carbonation on this keeps it light and almost stings the tongue. The beer is creamy goodness.
