Appearance: Black with reddish tones, large creamy light brown head, good lacing.

Smell: Sweetness and roasted malts, hints of chocolate

Taste: More sweetness and roasted malts. I taste some anise in there. Hints of bitterness and chocolate

Mouthfeel: Medium body, low carbonation, velvety smooth.

Drinkability: Great session beer. I could drink more than just the 550ml bottle I got, and I seriously think this could become a regular in my rotation.

Overall, excellent. Quite a satisfying porter. A top beer in my book, and another excellent beer from Samuel Smith.

A- Pours a very dark leathery brown liquid with a bit of light coming through at the edges. The light brown head is creamy and thin with nice retention.

S- Sweet cocoa powder, fruit, a bit of a pm English/ butter aspect, and mineral water (?). Very unique but at the same time retraining a lot of the characteristics I like about the brewery's beers.

T- Fruit, cocoa, caramel, almonds, and a bit of coffee. Complex and tasty in all the right ways. Very nice.

M- A light but creamy body with a nice amount of carbonation.

O- A delicious and interesting porter. The gold standard for he style.

One of my favorite session beers...well...actually one of my favorite beers, period!
While it's not advertised as such - there's a very strong sweet chocolate flavor throughout. The smell isn't quite as pronounced. The aroma is more like caramel or toffee.

Goes down perfectly smooth. Just the right combination of "thickness" and going down easy.

I could drink this brew endlessly. It's nice that you can find it in both bombers and 4-packs.
