A- Poured into a pint glass with a two finger light brown head. Bubbly texture to the cap but it has great retention. Nice patches of lace all around the glass.

S- Nutty and roast malt mostly for me although it seems to have a weaker aroma than most porters.

T- Compared to the nose, a lot is added in the flavor. A nice balance of roast malt, dark fruits, toffee, caramel, nutty malts and bread. Has a bit of a chocolate raisin feel. Slightly tart, maybe the "tangy character" they speak of.

MF- Not as rich as American Porters but I see that trend in the English counterpart. Foamy consistency with silky smooth moderate carbonation.

Since it isn't super rich like some Stouts/American Porters it drinks very nicely. Good balance of flavor and a nice overall porter.

This was one from Westview Liquors - Frederick.

Look: The brew had a black color with tinges of ruby red along the edges. Very little transparency. Head was a tan coating of foam.

Smell: The nose offered sweet notes of dark fruit and some roasted baking cocoa. Also some soft notes of toffee mixed with a little alcohol.

Taste: Upfront was a semi sweet dark chocolate with a quick coffee bitterness balanced with a lactose quality. The middle and finish was fairly clean with the bitterness and roasted malts fading into a fairly clean aftertaste. Mouth feel was rather light, but still fell with the style. As the brew warmed, the palate opened and the coffee and chocolate notes seemed to cancel out what little bitterness was present.

I definitely think this beer falls inline with the other quality offerings from Sam Smith.

In a bottle and from Whole Foods in DC for $5.99. What a great porter. No aftertaste. Hints of coco, coffee, and burnt vanilla. It's also listed at stores for $2! It was thinner in body than expected and I liked that. I didn't feel like I was getting full. On rate beer it's listed as a 98 and 99. 5% etoh. I would consider this a good starter porter.

Beer bottle (35.5 cl.) purchased from "Le souffleur de bières", tasted in 2012.

Appearance : black color, with tan foamy head.
Smell : roasted and liquorice aromas.
Taste and mouthfeel : smoked and roasty flavors, with a dry bitter finish.
Drinkability: a good beer in the style English Porter.
To drink at cellar t° (13 °C).

poured from bottle into a pint glass. Pours a real nice dark chocolate color with a nice head to it.

Well balanced, but seeming a bit shy in the aroma department. Good aromas of coffee, malts and chocolate. Wasn't all too giving though.

Full bodied with a really nice smooth and complete feel. Good depth with flavors of coffee and chocolate with a really nice roasted malt finish.

This was consumed at room temperature. The aromas were the only real let down, but this is a quality english porter.
