Appearance - Very deep brown and deep ruby mixed. Appears very clear when held to the light. Wine red highlights all around the edges and at the bottom. Tan colored head with nice thickness and lacing.

Smell - Roasted malt mixed with some sweetness of dark fruit. Plum or maybe even a dark roasted cherry aroma. Dark chocolate comes waffling followed by a nice creamy note. Coffee is hidden in the background. Delightful and inviting aromas.

Taste - The coffee flavor is really only present in the aftertaste, which allow the dark fruit and chocolate to stand out. The taste is sweet and unpresumptuous with only rudiments of bitterness. A bit more sweet than most of the Porters I have tried thus far.

Mouthfeel - Medium mouthfeel that is perfectly smooth. The palate is left wanting another sip. Begins slightly watery, but finishes dry. A tad creamy and very easy going down.

Drinkability - This is a very, very good Porter. I don't think I like this as well as the Sam Smith's Oatmeal Stout, but this is still way, way above average and worth a taste if at all possible. I am definitely looking forward to picking this up again. It is so easily drinkable it would be hard not to like it. Haven't had a Samuel Smith's yet that I didn't like.

Medium bodied, dark reddish brown with a foamy tan head which hangs around nicely and leaves some decent lacing behind.

The aroma is dark roast malt, caramel, nuts, dark chocolate and coffee.

Rich roasted malt flavor, slightly burnt caramel, licorice and chocolate, a hint of fruity sweetness with a dry finish. A lot of flavor with aroma to match.

Maybe not for everybody, but for those who like a rich malt flavor, this is definitely recommended.

Samuel Smith's Taddy Porter is a black ale with red overtones. The head is huge and fluffy, has excellent retention and leaves great lacing on the glass. The aroma is slightly sweet-- a bit like burnt toffee. It is pretty full bodied and soft on the tongue. The flavor is strong, well balanced and complex. There are notes of toffee, leather, roasted malt and peat. It is very English and tastes like a dimly lit pub. It's an excellent porter that I would never confuse with any other.
