Single bottle poured into a nonic glass. While there was a batch code laser marked on the neck, it was meaningless to me (I1070I).

Appearance: Poured a 1/2" off-white thick foam that died down to a thin foam across the top of the beer. Some lacing noted here and there. The beer was a orange-yellow amber color with a hint of haze to it.

Smell: Sweet malts with some hint of fruity esters dominate. As the beer warms up the smell gets more intense, but it mostly remains the same. While the smell is mostly of one character, it's strong and appealing.

Taste: The taste begins with malt, followed by those fruity esters (apples to me mostly) and then a mild bitter finish. There is a hint of citrus to this one every now and then, but it's not strong. The beer tastes like what they say on the bottle - malts and fruity hops. The bitterness becomes more pronounced as the beer warms up.

Mouthfeel: Light carbonation on the tongue with some lingering stickiness on the teeth. Nothing special, but nothing bad either.

Drinkability: I finished this one fairly fast and I have to admit, I would not mind having another one. It's quite tasty and very drinkable. A good session beer and it went very well with a meal (burger and fries). An overall solid good beer. It strikes me as a bit different than some English IPAs I've had, and yet I admit that my mind is clouded by the bitterness and hop forward character of American IPAs....so I view this beer as it's own unique character and I quite like it.

a. orange see through with minimal head, dissipates early.

s. All I get is apple cider vinegar.

t. The vinegar taste is in the finish. There is some body that saves this rather average beer taste.

m. Good.

O. This beer is not going to be revisited. It is slightly above Okay.

Poured from a pint bottle into an imperial pint glass.

A - Light copper with a touch of haze. Almost no head after a not-too-gentle pour. No lacing to speak of.

S - Nice earthy, hoppy, floral smell with a bit of malted grain.

T - Lots of bitter hop and wild, medicinal flower. A nice roasty, grainy malt flavour. The end of it all is almost reminiscent of a cup of Ceylon or Darjeeling.

M - Really like a nice malty pale that turns into tea right before you swallow it.

O - Not my favorite ale, but it's a nice change-up at times. I like this one really cold. It's really more of a beer for a quite contemplative evening rather than a refresher after sweaty lawn work.

A: Like a normal pale but darker and possibly a tad bit murkier. Not much of a head the way I poured into the glass.

S: Not much here; although I'm not the best judge of aroma of beers. If anything, I get woody notes and some bitterness.

T: Awesome! After tasting Coopers Sparkling Ale I was looking for a beer in similar style and this exceeded my expectations. I love the English-style pale ale more than the American and this is the prime example of why. Earthy tones, bitterness from the hops, nice caramel malt backbone, breadiness, and yeast.

M: Thicker than expected. Medium I'd say with a good creaminess. Kind of yeasty. Very tasty.

O: This is what makes a good English style pale ale. Nice and crispy, yet full of flavors. The English touch (the breadiness and toffee-like character) makes this beer a winner not only in style but in craft.
